If it means keeping the land or watching his father died in prison, I'd bet on the son selling the land to keep that from happening. I wouldn't be surprised if a deal has already been cut with the government to swap land for no prison time. I know first hand how our government works. If they want something, they will find a way to get it. BTW, I'm not defending Pass. But the federal government is more crooked.
Don, I understand where you are coming from, totally! But, with that being said, those guys have been trying to nail Pass for a while. He knowingly abused "our land" for decades with no regard for the law. In his mind, the brake was "his". He did this to himself, not with the governments help. They were tired of slapping him on the wrist and built a solid case.
It just so happens to be that the land that the government wants is owned by an old crooked codger...

In Count 9, the government alleges that he failed to tag two black bellied whistling ducks. Interesting.

Someone with a PACER (federal court electronic filing system) account sent it to me. I don't know how to put it on here.

Seems like a whole lot of effort and not much result - and no, he won't go to jail for 20 years or pay $1.5M in fines. I'm sure they worked hard and have him on a few things for which he deserves tickets, but seems like there are much bigger outlaws out there doing way more than what they could come up with on this guy in two years.
From what I saw on the Information, 1 dove baiting hunt and 7 duck hunts on the refuge part totaling 26 ducks killed - plus multiple claims of failing to fill out information cards, not tagging ducks left with other people, aiding the undercover fed to shoot over the limit twice (how does that work), etc.

You can get a year in the federal pen for not filling out a pink card. Did not know that.

Dec 29

Did not obtain nor fill out and return cards
Jan 19
Hunted in Sanctuary on paid hunt
Left 1 duck somewhere other than his house untagged
Did not obtain nor fill out and return cards
Summary
Pass hunted a baited field and charged the feds $300 to hunt with him. Pass killed 10 dove over the limit. He does not like to fill out the pink cards, nor does he keep the ducks at his house when he kills them. He owns like 6 houses over there so who knows where the duck are. The feds killed over the limit twice for a total of 3 ducks over the limit. He guided hunters into the sanctuary twice in which he killed three ducks which tells me he aint that good of a hunter despite what he has told me in his stories. Made grand total of what looks like $400 off the feds for duck hunting when they could have purchased a ramp pass for $500 and hunted everyday on the refuge.

How does someone "aid" in shooting over the limit? Seems to me whomever pulled the trigger did the crime. I'm not meaning that in a smartass way... it's a legit question.

Most likely he drove the undercover out to hole, watched them shoot over the limit and didn't stop them.

Just 'cause you don't know the answer doesn't mean it's not legit.

The charge on Jan 19th involved my wife's boss, his son, and a friend of his. All have received citations for hunting with a guide, illegal entering of federal property, and receiving illegal waterfowl (3 gadwalls). Her boss said Pass had a guy from Meridian with him that said he was Pass' " apprentice". Apparently he was an agent. Her boss was leasing one of Pass' blinds and Pass told him that if he leased the blind be would take to his "secret" hole. Also said he never paid him for the blind lease.

When you put it in perspective like this it makes me wonder how they can impose the serious fines and possible jail time. But, I learned a long time ago the feds can just about do whatever they want to. The federal judge in Aberdeen or Oxford will cooperate and he's probably done for. Not saying he shouldnt be punished but I sure hope the maximum penalties arent enforced. Guess we'll have to wait and see.............
