I Love DU! One of my best buddies has 800 acres in the delta. Most of it WRP. DU has made levees, drainage structures, planted and made it an awesome duck hunting place. I LOVE DU!

I am a member of DW. I Love them too.
I know this is contraversial but I think there may be room for both.

I might even join DU since they did such a good job on my buddies hunting hole.

Yeah, maybe DU can come and flood some of the timber behind my house and plant sum japanese millet or sumthin as well, haha. I didint think they did that crap. Well, heres where I stand. Duck numbers are said to be growing, but we arent seeing as many ducks. I dunno about yall, but im seeing a red flag goin up. Sumthins fishy about that. I used to be a big supporter of DU, but I think they have become kind of anti-hunting over the past couple years.

The only reason duck kill reports in OK are up is because there are more duck hunters there now.....mainly due to the internet. Overall hunter success there has actually decreased in the last couple of years so I am told.

yep, used to be a DU supported, but have switched to Delta Waterfowl. DU needs to quit making a GREAT home for the birds up North!!!!!!!!!!! I refuse to give DU another penny!

Heres a thought :

Maybe the Oklahoma duck numbers haven't grown,... Maybe the ducks of the Miss. flyway haven't moved over at all !
The central flyway does not hold a candle to the Miss. flyway, as far as "number of acres in refuges" is concerned.

Could it be that "our ducks" simply have too many un-molested areas to winter (hide) in than those of the central ?

Everyone should remember what it looked like, two weeks after season ended, last year,.... more ducks than you could shake a stick at !!!
While we did finally get a little cold weather, to help out, it was not enough to account for the mass influx of birds we saw !

I think it was the lack of hunting pressure,... thus causing the ducks to come OFF the refuges, or should I say ALLOWED them to come off !

I have personally seen far too many high, migrating ducks, this year to not have any, or many to hunt !
They went somewhere !........ Not to the grass swamps of La.,.... And not back north !

THEM SUM-BI#$@## ARE ON A REFUGE SOMEWHERE, A WAITIN ON OUR SEASON TO END !

MARK THESE WORDS !!! A MONTH FROM NOW,... WE WILL BE SEEING PLENTY OF THEM SMART SOB's !

Even if the weather remains the same !

Rip Em !

I have really come to detest this topic when it comes up every couple of months.

My name is Kevan, and I was once a DU basher.

(you all go "hi, Kevan)

When it comes down to it, they are both good for ducks. I lean more heavily to DW myself, but DU has gotten their head out of the sand and are trying to repair some old bridges. Give em both a buck or two.

I am with rip em, but its not just the refuges. It is these people that have the money to buy all this land or lease it and not hunt it but maybe once or twice a year. I know a place in south ms that has thousands of ducks. I am talking 20 minutes from the gulf. It used to be old fish ponds, this old guy bought it flooded the whole thing and now it is a duck heaven. I know because I used to deer hunt right next to. I watched thousands upon thousands of ducks fly in there. Never once did I hear a shot fired in there. I also I have heard this guys has 20000 acres in the Natchez area that is the same way. I also know a place in the delta that is pretty much the same way and it is a hunting club. Back a few years ago I hunted it a good bit, but my friend was the only duck hunter in the club so they made a rule that you couldn't duck hunt if anyone else was deer hunting in the area. Well everytime we tried to duck hunt someone would be deer hunting the area. I talked to my friend last night and he said they finally got to hunt it Sunday Morning and limited out pretty quick, he said after they were done the ducks just kept pouring in there. It was the first time they have been shot at in this particular hole all year. I am sure that some on this board probably hunting surrounding areas of this club and probably are wondering were the ducks are. The club is not to far from Mahanna. So its not just DU greating refuges.

i'm not trying to bash any side of this argument, but you say its not just DU doing it, but that guy in Natchez had DU come in and fix up his property for ducks. Which brings me to my next point, to me it seems DU will do anything for you if you are rich, (maybe it is so you will donate to them) but if you aren't loaded, then they don't really give a $#!+ about helping you kill ducks,
but that's just me,
