Im just saying the river is not as dangerous as some make it out to be. It's just another body of water with some perils in it. You learn those perils, learn to respect it's power and enjoy the MS river. For it is as beautiful, bountiful place you can ever visit!
I agree BR. I just get pissed when people who have never been on or in the river talk about how dangerous it is. You mentioned a whole tree shooting up out of the water and getting sucked back down...I've seen that a few times freaky isn't it. To me the damn jetties are the most dangerous areas you never know what that current is going to do around those things I just avoid them best I can.
I hear ya! I spent most of the afternoon checking out rock dikes, sandbars, and shortcuts to see which ones I could blow over or go thru. Been a long time since I made the run Im gonna make in the morning. Trying to save every mile I can!

My father in law is convinced a sandbar will flip upside down, virtually swapping ends right before your eyes. He tells me this everytime I take my wife and daughter to the river for a sandbar picnic.

What do you mean swapping ends?

He thinks it will flip over; swears he knows someone that saw it happen.

as in flip over like a piece of wood, or flip like the sand on the north end of the sandbar is churned up enough to move it down river where it ends up as the south end of the sandbar??

Flip over as in the bottom becomes the top. I don't understand the logic really so I just nod and say okay.
