Didn't they do this several years ago? I'm thinking my wife and I rec'd $600. I don't recall what the "reason" for that one was.

Yes, this was done in 2001 for to stimulate the economy at that time as well. Problem is nobody spent the checks, they saved or paid debt.
Allowing for a refund for those making a small amount and paying little in taxes was one of the major sticking points in getting this deal done. The Dems wouldn't sign off on it unless there were new 40s in paper bags for all their voters.

At least they are putting it back into the economy instead of saving it or sending it to debt

Just read the press release. $600 single, $1200 per couple + $300 per child. If you made at least $3k and didn't pay taxes you get $300. If I may steal someone elses term, there are going to be some excited Moon Crickets when they get them checks. $300 per kid, dang they gonna get they hair did, get they nails did, get dem some new sneaks, dey gon be scrait up pimpin.
