today was another bad day. Baylee lost kidney function this morning. She had an infection, and a real concearn over her hart valves not being fully developed. Infections are a common place for premies, they got lines going in and what not and they happen. The hart valve thing is common as well, and usually can be corrected with drug therpy. Not to say neither is not serious, but not uncommon. But kindey function is an immedate emergency situation. The doctors weren't blunt at all about the gravity of the situation, she was in a fight for her life. And the infection and hart valve issues (and therefore the blood gas issues) all took second place to dealing with the kidneys. Her hart beat had been 180 for 24 hours, way way fast. They removed the line to her chest, and ran one to her artery in her leg. Her adomen had been swollen, and now that things have stablized, it seems to have gone down and the docs think perhaps some fluid had built and was pressing on the kindeys making the situation worst. Now with a new line, and antibotics flowing, she already is doing better, and looks and feels better. At 1030 this morning, troy and heather thought there was a very real chance of losing her. By 230 this afternoon, troys comment was, she looks great, she looks, like a baby! color vitailty everything was better.
The whole premie thing is a constant roller coaster, from good to bad. And there never is really a turning point, never a time they say hey, your out of the woods from here. The lows slowly dont get as low, but the progress slows down as well. Then finally you get to go home. Theres never a defining moment, except maybe when they are born, and when you go home.. and probably not till they are home long enough you think about it anymore. Its an incredibly humbling and stressful expereince, knowing theres nothing in the world you love more, but theres nothing in the world you have any less control of.
Troy got down today. He did get back up, but it was the first time he was down. he told me tonight, he is praying, not only for his daughter, but for God to help him in the way he handles things, and to give him the strength to deal with it and to make the right choices. hes very touched by everyones concearns and prayers. When the only control you have is spritial, it helps to have some folks behind you. keep it up ya'll. travis
