Those things are everywhere... you probably pass several every day. Helped me get used to the GPS pretty quick.

my wife bought me a GPSMap 76CX for my birthday, and i love it.... i had an eTrex before and wouldn't go back for any amount of money.... The different maps aren't cheap, but they work really well and it will get you out of the woods when you don't know where you are.... the software is key though, if you don't have the software it is not nearly as useful as it can be....budget some money to get the software....

another plus with the new units is they are much more accurate than the eTrex, and work in much denser cover...so it is harder to get lost as long as you have battery power....

the compass works well as long as you are moving, it isn't a substitute for a real compass, but the unit is more useful as a whole... i carry an old-fashioned compass as a backup anyway it will never run out of battery....

What software are you talking about - Map Source? Are there others?

US Inland Lakes and City Select, as well as the Topo maps.... they are all mapsource....I guess more properly they are maps rather than "software"....

Tunica, how did we get out of SE Asia when all we had was a bad map and a compass? Wonder if they got maps on these things of the Phu Cat mountains? I'd kinda like to look up LZ English on one of them. Popping smoke...confirm purple...Out.

dead reckoning and plain dumb luck.

I still have My army issue compass and it still dont lie.

Crow lz english looks now 13 51 19 95n - 109 02 31 92E

I bet its the same place how far away from LZ hardtimes is lz english Hardtimes and a few others you can find but not english wonder if they made that into the phu cat airfield. I think I flew into there once going north and it was a metal runway late 69 am I right?
