My wife is a 2nd Grade Teacher. And her first year was at a school in Pearl MS, which was fine, she just didn't like the curriculim.. So the next year the only job offer she got was from Jackson Puplic Schools. She was there 2 weeks and couldn't take it and was about to quit before getting offered a job in the Flowood Schools which is much much better.. But while she was in the JPS school she said all the students wanted to come up and touch her, feel her hair and ask here questions. She said it was like they had never seen a white person..

Woodduckdawg - I don't know how you do it.. Takes a special person to be a teacher, but even more special to do it in JPS...

Wingman, that list is almost unbelievable. As amny jokes as we here abou those names, many people outside the delta think it is an exaggeration. I don't know if it is funny or sad. i know I can't pronounce many of them

i went to school with Tarantula and he had a brother named rattlesnake.

And twins named duane and dewayne.

Y'all ready for this? I have a neighbor whose female basset hound has the same name as my friend the mechanic, and a former Sunday School teacher whose male black lab was named the same as a duck hunting buddy's daughter. And no, they don't know each other. (Thank God :P )

I can't tell you how many parents have been in my office who could neither spell their chilluns' names nor remember their dates of birth.

The other day, I met with a woman named "Shadow". No big deal. Guess what her daughter's name was? "Reshadow!"

I once helped a lady change her name from a "creative" one to something like Carolyn. When I asked her why she wanted to change it, she said that she was sick of having to spell the stupid name that her parents stuck her with and wanted a normal name.

In certain communities, if you really want a mindblower, read the names on the elementary honor roll lists published in your local newspaper. I often wonder if these kids can spell their own names the same way twice.
