How has this season been

I'm too tired to wax poetically tonight, but my season so far has been pretty good from a harvest standpoint, and as always, a lot of fun. I could stand to see more "green" , but I'm not complaining. I've already shot well over a case of shells, and may run out again. I've already eaten so many ducks this season that I am getting webbed feet. These are good problems to have.

Got my first buck this season with my muzzleloader, which was a nice 8 point (I am a relative newbie to the sport of deer hunting) . The cape/head is at the taxidermist to be mounted, and the meat is in my freezer. Grilled out the tenderloin on New Year's Day for me and the wife ----used the Hoover Sauce introduced to me by Teul at the last Wooly Swamp shindig ---very, very good eating. Still have the backstraps to grill, and looking forward to enjoying those great meals.

The best news is that there are still 4 more weekends left of the season. Hopefully, in the last few weeks of the season, we will see either a cold artic front bringing new ducks in from the north, or a reverse migration coming out of the south. Otherwise, with the action slowing down a tad the last week or so, it is time to change tactics, open up our bag of tricks and get downright sneaky on them ducks. Me and Jim Beam are ready for the challenges that lay ahead over these last 4 weeks.

This has been one of my better seasons so far. Not based on the numbers killed, but the memories made. I started the season out at Snapp's. Two blowouts later, I met some new MSDUCKERS, and had a great shoot, even though it was mainly smileys. I am hunting a new lease South of Natchez on the La side. We killed limits of Specks and ducks many times.

I got to hunt the Manhanna 500 with Turkeyman, Bigwater, MSBIGDAWG1234, and others.

Went back to Snapp's for the opening of the second split with my son, his best friend (with ADD, Lord what was I thinking) and some good friends from back home. My son killed his first mallard. We left there and went to Southern Illinois to pheasant hunt with some friends we met this summer. Came back home and shot ducks out at my lease again. I haven't killed huge numbers, but I haven't been skunked yet this year. I can't say that in the past.

So, I can say this has been my best season so far, because if you base your happiness soley on number of ducks killed, you are setting yourself up for great disappointment.

Mine has been great. Along with most the other posts, I haven't had the mallards as in years past, but the greys have made up for it.

Spent 10 days hunting with Delta Duck and the times there just can't be beat. Good friends and fine eating.... Hunted the famed flooded timber in Arkansas this year for the first time. Watched thousands of ducks pile into Hallowel's resevoir one afternoon. The best hunt I went on was a flooded timber hunt off the Coldwater river, we killed 5 mallard limits in less than an hour.

But what I enjoy the most is the duck hunting before work during the week and on Sunday before church. Squeaking out a limit then heading to the office.... makes the day go by faster!

Worste season ever for me. Dis-owned a couple of friends I've had since high school that I got started hunting birds about 4 years ago due to some personal issues. It really put me down on hunting. So coupled with skyblasters/hole crowders in public areas, I stayed at home and hunted deer on family owned land (that crap is as boring as I remembered). My wife is happy tho It's just not the same for me anymore, I got some limits but nobody to share the fellowship in the blind with makes it not worth my time.

I kind of had a first season where I hunted every weekend hunting was on until a couple of weeks ago and now have taken some time off and am ready to get back to it. Not a whole lot of luck so far. A few gads and a lot of misses on green heads. My son has limited out hunting with the old man every time we've gone. Ole deadeye daniel I call him cause he is sure knocking them down while I am mired in one of the worst slumps of my career. Can't seem to get them to commit as often this year either although I have seen plenty.

As far as birds, Not good.

The hunts where alright, just had a few hunting partners that just couldn't miss breakfast.

I did manage to get my brother his first mallards, the smile on his face made the hole season.

One thing that i did enjoy this season was watching the geese and ducks hit one of our holes. It was unreal. Yes they where out of range but for a whole day geese and ducks poured into our field. The show they put on will last a while.

On the downside my season has ended. This season has taken it's tole on me and everything i own. I guess i get to look forward to next year and see what it will bring.

I have shot fewer ducks this year than I ever have, but I have had more fun this year than I can ever remember. In saying that, I have had a great season.
