I am in 100% agreement about Willis. He may be the best player in the nation at any position. He is the best college defensive player I have ever seen play in person.

Ya'll are missing my point about Schaeffer. He will be good, maybe even great, but once again he is unproven. If the draft were tomorrow, knowing what we know about both players, a team in need of a QB would most likely select Russell over Schaeffer because they know about him -- he is proven. That may be different after the season or five games into this season but to place Schaeffer over Russell at this juncture is rediculous. Remember when Tyler Watts was supposed to be a can't miss QB? What about an old QB/TE named Robert Lane?

The rebs have already stated that Robert Lane is the next Jeremy Shockey at the TE position.

You can go to any UM message board on the net and find that.

But see, here's something else. Let's say that UM has a good year and Schaeffer lights up some defense's with his arm and feet......he'll jump in the nfl draft really quick, which will leave UM in another bad qb position.

Was USC's backup QB last year a proven QB?

NFL scouts can see talent at a JUCO level as well as talent surrounded by LSU type players. If the draft was tomorrow you can bet and NFL team would draft Schaeffer just like they drafted USC's backup that was not proven. They see talent no matter what the won-loss record is.

The SC QB was a late round draft pick. We are not talking about just being drafted, we are talking being drafted high. If you are a top 10 QB in the nation, chances are you will be drafted higher than the fifth or sixth round. I guess in your eyes (and Kiper's) Schaeffer would be a high draft pick right now with no further experience. I'm sorry, I just don't see it.

If Schaeffer wins 5 or 6 games per year over the next two years, do you think he will be a high draft pick? Jay Cutler was picked high, but he is an exception to the rule. Usually, if you don't win in college, your talent is not displayed effectively, and you are not a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Like it or not, your surrounding cast has something to do with your rating. If Vince Young was at Ole Miss last year, he would not have been the 3rd pick, period.

You can say that but it hasn't stopped Dante Culpepper, Warren Moon, Steve McNair, or Donovan McNabb from having successful careers.

Nutmeg, you have forced me to break my promise of being my last post on this thread. You have also further illustrated my point in the process. You can't argue the facts so you are reduced to snippy remarks about my football acumen.

Sure there are more "dual threat" QBs in the NFL. If you will notice, I didn't list these two as the exclusive dual threat QBs, I gave them as examples. Schaeffer is not in the mold of say Culpepper or McNabb. He is probably more in the mold of Vince or Mike, or actually Akili Smith or Aaron Brooks. There are many more throughout the history of the league, none of which have won a Super Bowl.

More likely than not, Schaeffer will ultimately be a WR in the NFL, akin to Brad Smith, Matt Jones, Michael Robinson, Marcus Randall (he is a DB now), Eric Crouch, and the list goes on. Maybe he will get drafted No. 1 overall as a QB and win seven super bowls, but to say he is a top five junior QB without proving anything over other proven winners (who were rated just as high coming out of high school) is rediculous, as I have stated over and over and over. That is my only point.

I think all of those QB'S were dual threats when they came into the league and most of them throughout their career. Surely you argee with that.

I am not saying Schaeffer will ever be an NFL player much less QB. But I am saying Russell will never be a NFL QB either.

He can throw a football 80 yds flat-footed............yeah he's got a great chance at the NFL.
