I have to offer my two cents. I agree that the shells are the cheapest part of the whole deal. I don't know one way or the other whether the heavier loads really perform that much better, because I don't shoot them. I have shot those walmart cheapos for years and killed hundreds of doves with no problem. I do try to pick my shots and pass up the long-distance birds. Hit 'em with 7/8 ounces of #7 1/2s at twenty-five yards and they go down hard!

My personal favorite is the Winchester Upland Heavy Game Load in 20 Gauge, 2 3/4", 2 1/2 Drams, 1 Oz, 7 1/2 shot. And in 12 Gauge, 2.75", 3 Drams, 1 1/8 oz, 7 1/2 shot. I just ordered from Cheaper than Dirt 2 cases of 20's, and 1 case of 12's, at $5.09 a box. The best price I could find.

I shot a BUNCH of Fiocci's opening day last year. I can't prove it, but I think they forgot to put the shot in those shells.
I couldn't hit anything last year.

I just back from Lakeway in Grenada with two cases of Rottweil shells. Never heard of them before, but for $3.60/box for heavy load shells, can't beat that anywhere.
I shot some fiocchi's last year and they weren't as good of shells as the one's I shot a few years ago.

I have never had a complaint about Fiocchi V.I.P.'s. I have been getting 4 and 5 flats at the time. I like 'em.
