stateguy,
The first thing I would not do is put anything about state in my name. Then if you are a state graduate you dont even know what a category is in the first place, so you can take that cowbell and put it up your a--. I could care less about a cowbell so you need to learn how to talk to people. This is a duck hunting forum and not a piece of crap state forum. So go to a state forum if you want to talk about ole miss.

My ding-a-ling, my ding-a-ling,
I'm gonna keep a'ringing my ding-a-ling!

Just not in the stadium. I can live without the bells in the stadium; there are plenty of opportunities to harrass Ole Missand Auburn folks outside in the parking lots. We don't need them to kick some Rebel booty! Come on, GH22, don't let old Kayak (or whatever the Hell his name is) get you down! I love my bell; I've had it since 1970, and it sounds better every year. But, it is unfair advantage. I've been on the field when the fans get them going (back when every person in the student section had one), and you can't hear yourself think! The tradition doesn't have to die, though; we just have to reframe it a bit. Heh, heh, heh, there are innumerable ways to torment Rebel fans. Some of them haven't even heard that Johnny Vaught is dead and Archie Manning is an old man!It must be terrible to still be living in the 50's and 60's! Who loves ya, Rebels!

How long till duck season?

Well, since were going to talk about cowbells instead of ducks, I'll wade into this pile of horse$#@t as well.

Bottom line: There is an SEC rule forbiding fans from carrying artificial noisemakers into the stadium. The purpose of the rule is obvious: to prevent artificial noise from interferring with a team's calling of plays in the huddle and signals at the line of scrimmage. Except for MSU, no other team's fans in the SEC use artificial noise makers to make noise when the opposition is at the line of scrimmage calling signals ---the fans of the rest of the SEC just yell and scream.

Either enforce the rule or get rid of it and let all SEC teams' fans make artificial noise when the opposition has the ball and is calling plays and signals. Fair is fair.
I personally hate "Rocky Top", that damn elephant noise at Bama, everything LSU does, and that stupid calling of the Hogs, and really do not desire to hear it piped into the stadium artificially while my Rebs are trying to call plays and signals. But, if the SEC is going to let MSU violate the rule, then lets just get rid of the rule.

Then, Ole Miss can bring back the cannon on to the field to fire at appropriate times during the game, and pipe in Hotty Toddy cheers and "Dixie" while State has the ball --or better yet, Ole Miss can start an airhorn tradition, blaring the things in unison while the opponent is trying to call signals---or even better, we could blow duck calls. And meanwhile, we will all go deaf with all of this noise.

Meeka,

It is funny that you mentioned the lagalaties of the new rule. Technically, the fans and their actions are not goverened by the SEC but by the local law enforcement. If they want to keep the alchol out of the stadiums they use the State police, when they wanted to keep the Rebel Flag out they used the state police, now they want to keep the cow bells out and they are going to use the refree's and some bogus penality. Sounds as if some one has let their new athority figure position go tho their head or like I said in an earlier post, they wer settling up an old debt. Ole Miss looses their flag, then State looses the bells. It is all fair in love and war.

Hey Mallardchaser...

Be glad there's no Noxubee up there. I dang near didn't graduate from all of the classes I missed while I was either hunting/fishing Noxubee or fly fishing for bream on the pond behind the athletic complex.
