In the Bible they call snakes serpents, "the devil's creatures" i will shoot every one of them sum bitches and not lose a wink of sleep over it. i do not shoot non-poisonous ones. But these little fools need to die.

Thats what I was thinking. So these holier than thou folks on here are telling us they have never shot a snake cause it was a snake. I'm calling B.S.

If the snake can kill me I'm shootin' at the thing or finding something to bash it with, something with a little reach on it anyway. Non-poisonous I'll let them slide. Had a few fall in the boat with me back in the day and that boat had quite a few dings in the bottom from the paddle.

Killing the odd cottonmouth doesn't bother me, just don't kill 240 snakes in one year and then wonder why your deer camp has a such rodent problem...

If you really want to do some good, shoot armadillos and coyotes (legally); both are invasive species that suck down quail eggs.

my 2 cents

I surely have shot snakes just for the heck of it, but I grew out of that about the time I graduated high school. I have no problem whatsoever with letting a cottonmouth slide right on by me. Now if you are not sure of your manhood, I could see where it would be difficult for you to do this.

I'm sure of man manhood and see nothing unmanly about grabbing some cold beer and going to a bridge and shooting snakes all day long. Just my opinion. Sorry if it disagrees with someone else's point of view.

My snake killin decisions are based upon where I see the snake. If I see the snake out in the wild, then I leave it alone, and it leaves me alone ---this mutual agreement between me and the snakes has worked pretty well so far.

Now, if I see a poisonous snake in my yard, near my home, where my family will be enjoying the property, then: I shoot that thang!!! If I see ANY type of snake in my home, or right next to the home, then it will have to be removed, dead or alive ---preferably dead. I have to draw the line somewhere with my snake friends.

In general, a snake is a part of nature, and can help serve a valuable function of keeping the mice/rat/mole/other rodent pop. in check. I see no reason to kill them just for the heck of it. But, I won't be going on a crusade to protect them, or judging others who choose to kill them. My opinions are just a matter of personal preference.

Ok, how about this senario. You're sitting under a tree, trying to work a gobbler into range. And this whole time while you are focused on the bird you lose sight of the fact that a cottonmouth has slithered quite closely to your manhood.......and it's within biting distance of your manhood.

Now, which option you gonna choose in this situation?

Deltadukman, that would be shooting from a public road and it would disagree with the MS code of 1972's point of view. Hehe.

GH22, don't be a goober. You should use a properly aimed and appropriately timed blast of intestinal gas to shoo the snake away. If you fart at the same time you pull the trigger, you will not scare the turkey away or alarm the snake too soon. Didn't they teach you that in hunter safety?

I would have to agree completely to the above statement.

Weather has been warm enough for breeding activity in certain reptiles. Cotton Mouths are live brooders. Means they give live birth out of egg sac type membranes. Not eggs. So they could breed this early and not be as affected by temps as snakes that lay eggs are. Could be they gathered for that... Garter snakes do that by the thousands in some places up north.
But still, For cottonmouth's together in those numbers; That's un friggin believeable!!!!!!!!

I work with a guy that did the same thing a week or two ago. There is a snapshot at work with somewhere around 85 in it. But from the way it sounds it might be all in the same group of people.

Well I am pretty sure of my manhood and I can promise if I have the oppurtunity to waste a cottonmouth I will

Well from what i can tell there is no shortage of cottonmouths in that area. If i would have seen that many snakes i think i would have shat my britches. No way on this earth i would have carried them out on my wheeler.
