I'd take 100 days and if the Feds were to give it to us.

If we take care of the ducks, the ducks will take care of us.
I'd hate for yall to have to read My rant on that quote.

Because I prefer to err to the side of caution. I'd rather have to deal with the problem down the road of too many mallards than too few.
I honestly believe that (1) the 60 day seasons (all up and down the flyway) for the past x years, combined with (2) the drought in the nesting grounds of the past x years has impacted the mallard populations in ways that we may never recover from.
Why not be safe rather than sorry and hunt less days?
(The fact that duck hunting industry might be reduced in size is only an added bonus)
P.S. I'm busy this week and probably won't be able to correspond further, but hopefully there is someone else out there who can represent this point of view.

It's fairly simple h2o ------>>> GREED!
It's easy for these guys to throw $25-$100, or more in the DU pot and think they have done their share for duck conservation, but ask them to give up something that stings a little, and it's a whole different story.

OK - here we go again.
I thought that we had gotten past the greed thing 450. I think that WF is the last example that I would use to demonstrate greed.
I think that some folks still want to leave this up to science rather than opinion. That's all. As we all know, it's not an exact science and it continuously evolves. If the Fed's say 30, then I'll have fun for 30 days. If they say 75, then I'll have fun for 75 days.
I still don't get the parallel with DU here.....?
But at the end of the day, opinions are what they are and they will not influence the outcome of the season length one bit.

ya know what sportmans 450 i'm sick an tired of you callin everyone who wants a 60 day season greedy...
for someone who hasn't hunted at all the last 3 or 4 years its easy for you to say that we should reduce the season...
i mean hell if i hadn't hunted at all i guess i wouldn't mind at all reducing the season
maybe if you got your booty out there an hunted you'd be sportman 385 instead of sportsman 450...
take it easy guys and lets all keep our greedy fingers crossed for a 22 day season

ya know what bigwater, I don't care if you're sick and tired of me calling people who are putting their personal agenda (60 days) ahead of anything that might help the situation. You might want ta read the artice cited earlier in this thread. Greed is it's bottom line too.
As far as my not being able to hunt the past several years, that makes me want to hunt as many days as possible this upcoming year because I've missed it terribly, but I would gladly make the sacrifice, so you're doubly offbase there.

The DU parallel is this. It's very easy for these people to make a donation to DU. It requires very little if any self-sacrifice, but is great for the conscience. Giving up days in the woods would require a little self-sacrifice, and that's why it's so hard for some to even admit that it might help. As others have said, it certainly would do no harm.

What exactley is the "situation" 450?
Too many hunters? Too few ducks? What?
Like a few others have said and I will go along with. If they decide on 25 days this year I'll hunt as many of those days that I can. If they send us 125 days I'll go more. If they can retrieve accurate data on hatch success and harvest numbers then let them (the scientists) decide what's best. Or if they decided they can't retrieve viable data then make an across the board change and let's see the best system their scientific minds can come up with.
Right now there is no shortage of time to ponder and pursue cahnge if it is nessesary but what the hell do I know about it I just want to kill kill kill.

There is another factor you are not taking into consideration. Our hunting dollars do alot for the ducks. If you cut the hunting days in half you are also gonna cut in half the cold hard cash that hunters would have paid out.
And another thing. most of the ducks killed are not killed by hunters. There killed by other preditors, most before they can even fly. so if you wanna do something positive for the ducks give something back build some hen houses or just give a donation to D.U. or D.W

Too many hunters? Too few ducks? What?
Too few ducks, and too much pressure.
