I think I saw Big Dumbo visiting in one of ya'll's tree forts out there in the outfield.

After watching that version of Talledaga comes to college baseball, I never want to hear another MSU fan stating anything along the lines of: " Ole Miss fans just go to football games to socialize in the Grove". Pot meet kettle.

Looks like a bunch of folks having a good time to me. That's the best atmosphere in college baseball, even if some people are too good for that kinda thing. . Anyways, I never watched a game from the outfield, but I always wanted to. They were always having a good time out there while I was in the bleachers.

Perhaps John Grisham's perspective of Dudy Noble gives you a better taste for it.........

Talledaga comes to baseball -- Jealous much. Ole Miss has a nice ballpark, but try as they might you can't beat tradition. Much like gathering in the Grove before an Ole Miss football game beats beats tailgating at malfunction junction (or where it used to be in Starkville). Trying to put down the atmosphere in Starkville because Ole Miss can't beat it makes you look petty and elitist. Sometimes it is possible for Ole Miss not be the greatest in the universe at everything.

As for gathering in the grove and Left Field Lounge, you can actually watch the ball park from Left Field. My experience has been that most fans never leave the Grove. They prefer to watch the game on TV and socialize. Just my limited experience.

...watching 2 good baseball teams through grill smoke while drinking a few really good hi-grav beers and sharing jap duck poppers, grilled wild quail and other culinary goodies between the neighboring trailers...even with todays rules/restrictions in left field... it's hard to beat!

College baseball players from all over the nation have rated their experiences with Dudy Noble and the Left Field Lounge as the best in college baseball. SEC schools have done a great job promoting baseball and building the best facilities in the nation and drawing the large crowds...but the aurora of DNF is unmatched. You do not get to 13,000+ with just bodies in LFL. You pack Polk-Dement stadium from one end to the other. While the fellowship is a large part of the experience, the quality of baseball over time and the love of the game itself from the people who are watching it is what drives the consistency of record attendance at MSU. I expect you could have a fairly large event in the Grove if NO football game was even being played....just a scheduled party of some sort.

I really enjoyed my two past trips to the Talladega spring race. Camping out in the infield, cooking, eating, drinking, socializing, checking out boobage, etc.etc. .....oh yeah, and the races were fun too. It was a chance to embrace my inner redneckedness (I take advantage of a lot these type chances), having been born and grown up in a small town in the MS Delta and having lived as an adult in the MS Hill Country. I don't pretend to be better than anyone else. IF all the home-made, creatively designed grandstands in the outfield at MSU's Dudy Noble don't remind you a bit of Talledaga, then you just aren't being honest. Half the fun of Talledaga, is walking around looking at all the creative rigs and grandstand contraptions that folks build and set up. So, my comparison to Talledaga was not a putdown. Dudy Noble in the outfield looks like a lot of fun to me --- would love an opportunity to experience the outfield scene at Dudy Noble in one of the exclusive tree forts.

And the fact that fans were still in their tree forts for over an hour after an MSU baseball game, immediately brings to mind the parallels to the Grove at Ole Miss, where football fans gather before and after games (some of them stay during games) to cook, eat, drink, socialize, check out the eye candy, etc. etc. You guys have tree forts. We have tent cities. The game, of course, is important and the primary purpose of the gatherings. But, folks enjoy the whole game day experience. We often get criticized at Ole Miss for caring about the Grove more than the football games. My point was that it seems the same thing could be said about MSU and its Dudy Noble outfield atmosphere.

I think its great that MSU has such a tradition that so many folks seem to enjoy. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I was just poking a bit of fun. Nothing to get your panties in a wad over. MSU has one of the finest gameday atmospheres in college baseball. Carry on.

Will be at Swayze on the Friday night MSU plays the Rebels. My pastor is a general admission season ticket guy who loves UM baseball. He generally sits in the LF outfield area (not quite as rambunctious as RF area so I hear). Plan to buy a ticket and sit with him during round #1 of Dogs vs Rebs. Went up there in 2011 (first time ever at Swayze) and watched the Friday night game and enjoyed it very much (huge storm before game and Caleb Reed finished a dandy for the Dogs ) Maybe I will see you around Po Monk.
