Ok yellow cedar! got me.....i made 2 calls years ago out of Sitka Spruce...arguably one of my best..which ole Neil says best call he ever made was out of sitka spruce. I sure love the color of that yellow cedar. sweet.......Chris when you come by to get "fitted" for your holster, bring me your top 5 or 10- or 20 longboxes. I would love to put my hands on some great calls. Merkle has the black box.. maybe u can show him how to run it.. i cant do anything with him!!!!
MShunter.....surprising there are a lot places to get wood. Custom Sawing in KY especially caters to call makers. a lot wood we use is swapped back and forth between call makers or found from reclaimed stuff. I cut most of my wood from my hunting club but i will saw up an old honduras mahogony door in a second also. There are wood supply houses all over the country like Atlanta hardwoods , Charolette hardwoods etc. i will breeze through them but i have been in wood business for 28 years so i know the sources so to speak....but if i had to pick one wood to use....red cedar.......it's so versatile in a call from lids on long boxes to little bitty scratch boxes like grand pal would make
