Just thinking out loud here...

so if the dude stole the computer...

and apparently probably has a history of stealing other $#!+...

who's to say he isn't stealing the interweb from someone with an unsecured/poorly secured wireless?

I can see it now....

CL Headline: JPD kicks down door of octogenarians with new wireless device in suspected computer theft ring: Melton Lives

I know its frustrating, and I hope I'm wrong, but I can understand the need to clarify ownership.

Update.......................................................................

Still waiting for SOMEONE to do SOMETHING! While we get updates daily that the thug is still logging in using the laptop.

CPD says it could take 6 months to get the info from AT&T!

Any other ideas?

Lady in Attorney General's office was talking yesterday about bad stuff on internet/computers, and she said they could get information from AT&T/CSpire/Comcast/whoever in less than 24 hours. Just throwing that out there to further frustrate you.

Snot, Clinton PD is BSing you. I was in charge of security for a school system and when our resource officers asked ATT for confirmation of IP address for a stolen computer, it was usually hours...no more than 24 hours. You may have to jerk their chain a bit and tell them you may have go give this info to the media. My guess is they now know who it is and are waiting to score something bigger than a computer. My 2 cents.

+1

This is what I received back from our (southern states security officer):

Sorry for not getting back to you yesterday, but I was on the road. Subpoena Compliance handles subpoenas from all over the country. The turn-around is 1 to 2 weeks, unless the law enforcement agent calls and tells them it is a life or death situation. I never heard of it taking 6 months. 2 weeks is the longest turn around I know of.

I am sorry I did not see this thread sooner so that I could get the information for you.
