They are starting a new service and if you try to cancel they try to "upgrade" you to it for free. I also have to take all their crap of my house and ship it back to them within 30 days or it is 300 plus bucks. My service had slowed to a snails pace. They kept saying my satelite was out of adjustment. If my house was moving that much I would have had dust mites in each corner. I was very unhappy with them and hope I never have to use their service again.
Cut the cord with those jokers at my house up in Mendenhall 3 years ago. I had an outage for no explicable reason, had to schedule an appointment 2 weeks later for a service person and drive 140 miles to meet him, then he didn't show. Called up and they told me they couldn't make a repair because the dish was obsolete but I could upgrade for $200 and schedule another appointment. Didn't even bother to give me a call before to tell me this crap before I made the trip. Cancelled that SoB right there. Nothing but dialup up there now but I'm not going to deal with those scammers.

Ok. Break it down for a fella that has been in the woods too long.

If I get an I phone, I can buy a "tether plan" that will allow me to have more data transfer so I can use my phone to connect my computer to the internet?

Is a "mifi" or whatever a seperate device, does it have a monthly charge, and why is it/ or is it not, better than just using the phone?

Thanks.

While I realize this thread is going into cell phone techno-speak, I hafta say I love me some Hughes-Net.

I must be the only one, but it's the best doo-hicky I've spent money on it quite a while. Never a problem, just jinxed it though. :x

Yeah, I realized I have Wild Blue after I started this thread. I just got a mifi unit this afternoon from CSpire and it is light speed faster than my WildBlue.

You were right, slew. 1gb tether to the phone was $20 and $20 for each 1gb beyond that. 1gb mifi was $20, 3gb was $30 or $50 for 5gb and $10 for every 1gb over. So 3gb mifi would be $30, but 3gb tether is $60.

I'll be calling Wild Blue shortly to break the news. Thanks for the help everyone.
