I'm partial to Boston's too. Got a 3 year old 30 lbs male sleeping in my lap on the recliner now. Worst thing about a boston though, they can pass a silent fart that makes your eyes water. Our 14 lbs female who turn 14 this year and is deaf and near blind, is passed out on her pillow.

Lab. It'll teach them to put their toys away if they dont want them chewed to pieces, the power of optimism, loyality, and need for discipline.

wife and I used to have a pug before we had kids. I loved the dog she hated him. The pug did shed alot, dang near like a cat. They do have deviated septum issues that make them snore and breath like they got asthma or something and for some reason ours smelled real bad even though we bathed him often. He was good around kids when they came to our house.

Reasons not to get a pug:
1. The pug did shed alot, dang near like a cat.
2. They do have deviated septum issues that make them snore and breath like they got asthma or something
4. and for some reason ours smelled real bad even though we bathed him often. He was good around kids when they came to our house.

My friend has two of them. They both snore and sound awful all the time. They stink because of the slobber getting in all the folds on their faces. They have been to the vet several times for infections in the folds. And they can NOT keep the hair cleaned up in the house. They are fun dogs and great with their kids but only an English Bulldog can be any grosser.

Would say after a miniature schnauzer the daschund would be second choice for inside dog.

Forgot to say our pug had a bad habit of dragging his booty end across the floor all the time, had something to do with glands if I remember correctly. Looked like he was trying to get relief from hemorrhoids.

We have a mini dachschund.

I ran around on new years eve at the deer camp (after a little to drink) with him in my arms asking women if they wanted to play with my weener.

So there's all sorts of fun you can have with a dachshund

Ok, this is going to sound gay, so let the onslaught begin. But have you thought about a miniature poodle? I'm not talking about a toy 'purse rider', but the size up from that. Super smart, easy to train, good with kids, doesn't shed, and the history of the standard sized ones is also that of a hunter. (Ok, we all know just how fabulous the waterfowling is in Paris, so that last part is a stretch.) But you get the point. If you have daughters, they'll love it. If you have sons, they'll say it belongs to their mom.

Of course, you could get a small spaniel, and just deal with the shedding like the rest of us. 8)

We have a Westie that is my mom's dog now that they are empty nesters. Fun little dog with a LOT of personality. Plus they are very sturdy dogs unlike a lot of other small dogs. You don't feel like you are going to break them when you pick them up. She's still going strong at 12 years old. Should make it to almost 18 since she's in great shape and never had any health issues.

i've got a femal brittany. she's about 30 pounds. smartest dog i've ever fooled with. she's great with kids. if you keep them bathed then don't have to worry about shedding. mine is in and out a good bit. and she's a ball of fun and energy.

My brother and his family have a Havanese. Doesn't shed much, smaller dog and great around kids. Doesn't look like it could retrieve a teal though.

We have a 2.5 year old bichon/shi tzu mix...bout 12lbs. Smart as hell, doesn't shed, hypo-allergenic(sp?), not yappy and only barks when something is up, doesn't pizz on the floor when she gets excited, doesn't chew up stuff. We got her at 6 weeks old and she was pad trained in a couple of weeks. Plays with my 90lbs golden like she is his size but can turn it off and calm down in an instant.

Ive had two mini weenie dog very durable and independent they will do just fine outside if you need to leave them outside never had any back or legs problems those are rumors and they love to get under the covers and snuggle only down side if they see a hole in the ground they go in it. first one was a black and tan second was a piebald both shorthair no problems with shedding

+1 on this, I have one of these dogs also. Pound for pound he is a titan. I have seen ours go toe to toe with raccons, possoms, and especially cats that he doesnt know. I have a long haired and never had any issues with shedding, great little watch dogs, and good with kids. The only thing about these dogs you have to watch is there diet, i have seen overwieght weenies before that have issues once they get older. Mine is 10 years old and no problems at all.
