Do you think I am just making this up? What do you want pics, phone numbers. It was killed in Jan. This bird was killed less than a mile from the one killed in 2001 in clay county.
You Tell me? Either he was too lazy to call it in, or it didn't happen.. or he bought it on ebay and put it on the bird.
And seeing how rare it is to kill one of those bands what duck hunter wouldn't call it in? I put mine in the same day when I got back to camp.

Look...in weimhunter's defense, I think that it's entirely possible that there could be at least 2 of these bands that weren't reported. Look at the law of large numbers. I'll use Webfoot as an example....He knows 43% of the folks on that list. I also have to assume that he does not know 43% of the duck hunters that killed ducks in the state of MS in the last two years. You have to believe that just by the randomness of killing banded birds, miner bands have to be spread out across the population of duck hunters. Think about it....otherwise I need to make a point to drink coffee with Webfoot every time I come to town so I can get some of the luck!
Also, look at the 2004 stats...there were more miner bands killed in Alabama than Arkansas. Seems odd but West Point sure is mighty close to that neck of the woods..
It also says that a band must be reported within one year to get a certificate. Maybe the hunter that killed the bands doesn't know how to report it..or just didn't report it. Doesn't the band say "write Jack Miner"? Maybe they never got around to writing. Maybe they were confused since the address appears to be incomplete on some bands. Maybe they tried to call the toll free number for Miner bands outside of regular business hours EST and never were able to get through (per the web site). It definately could happen...

Softcall quote: Does anyone know if these birds were all banded in Ontario or are they from all over?
Only in Kingsville, ONT. Which is located on Lake Erie, just a stone throw into Canada.

My Pal Softcall,
In your defense you could be right....
But not likely
Most duck hunters know what it means to get a Minor band. No big deal right?.

beating my head against a brick wall

Not trying to argue but I think that you are calling BS a little too quick on someone who was just trying to get in on the thread.

What I said was this.... I didn't say BS but I was thinking it.
Quote:
Had a friend kill a drake in West Point this year that was a Jack Miner band. It was banded in 1994.
If that is the case why is it not showing on the list above. This list came straight from the Minor web page.

Either he was too lazy to call it in, or it didn't happen
same difference - I knew what you were getting at..we're splitting hairs.
Not my issue anyway.
Your right as always.

I must have missed this before I chimed in earlier. If he knows it was banded in 1994, then it must have been reported correctly. Either way, I'm happy for Duckmen and Webfoot, who have killed Jack Minor bands. That's probably the crowning achievement for any duck hunter to collect something that rare.
But does it really matter to us how many bands someone else has, or claims they have? This almost sounds like the debate on wearing your duck bands, or not.

(OH......THIS is getting GOOOOD!.....'can't wait to hear some responses to THAT one!)
Hey....BTW, Dan.......do you put a lot of thought into how you werd things....or does it just kinda come-out that way?

Wildfowler - I might be wrong but I think that the year is stamped on it. If it's anything like the ones I have seen on line, It would have a 94 on it. Could someone who has actually seen one up close confirm...Duckmen...Webfoot?
And no - it doesn't matter how many bands you have or claim to have. In my circle's case, boasting of band numbers usually stays in the blind with a close hunting buddy...you know for instance:
-your dog breaks or does she just leave? wahahahah!
-when are you going to buy a new motor - I know you are tired of paddling while I am running my trap...bwahahaha!
-nice shot...you are winchester ammunition company's wet dream! bwehehehehe!
-someone needs to control their dog!
-sheesh, let me teach you how to mix a drink (after hunt)
-that makes number 15...so how many bands do YOU have?
None of my buds showboat...you know.
And yep - I wear my bands. The few that I have are a reminder of good times. I can remember each hunt vividly and they are a part of my possibles...just like my old golden snipe 12....hanging right there next to Annie's tag on my lanyard.

Alright guys, I talked with the guy who killed the Miner band last night. He is reporting the band today. I will also post pics of the bird as soon as I can figure out how to do it.

I can't believe anyone would not report a band, especially not a miner! :?

The year stamp is on both the goose and duck bands.
The wording on the bands is done by a company that produces duck bands, however I think that the Jack Miner Foundation stamps on the year date separately. If you look at the bands closely the year stamp is different.
If he reports the band today, it could take some time for it to post on the website.
