when i was cruising timber, i would lay my cloths out and spray them with permithrin. never had any trouble with ticks or chiggers. i would buy the concentrate from the farm supply and mix it my self.

i also always took a clorox bath (mostly to help prevent poison ivy)

That permethrin is good stuff. Another good thing about it is that it stays around for a few washings. It doesn't have to be applied every time you wear something. Kind of like making a bug suit out of just regular old hunting clothes or work clothes.

I think I've put cold Verne on the bites before and that has helped some! Those jokers are bad news and always get in bad spots!

I'm absolutely dumbfounded that no one has mentioned drinking your own urine! Bigwater and Smokin Joe need to chime in as they always seem to have an old-fashioned remedy for whatever ails ya, especially in the itching department.

I've read letters from Union troops in the War of Northern Aggression written to their families back in Yankee land talking about the "invisible fire" here in the South. They had no idea what a chigger/red bug was.

311 has not been around or he would certainly suggest drinking 8 ounces of your own urine.

go to ace hardware and get some MEK (methyl ethyl ketone). and rub on it. works for poison ivy too.
