Ijust finished law school about a year ago at MC. I lived in Belhaven, but have lived in a few other places. Belhaven is convient and as for the crime, I neer had any problems. However, Shadowlake (Flowood) is nice and not too far. Its probably the closest outside Belhaven. Price isn't that bad and they do allow dogs. I have some friends that are in Med school and law school that live there. They seem to like it just fine. I would go with Shadowlake or Belhaven. I think there may be a few houses for rent in belhaven at the moment. Had plenty of med school friends that lived there and some still do. PM if you have any questions.

Think DDM hit it on the head. If you have a little common sense you'll be fine in NE Jackson...sure folks will bring up crime, but there were also a large number of cars broken into in Laurelwood and Barnett Bend a year or two ago....like over 50 in a couple of weeks. I grew up in Fondren, my mom lives in Belhaven and I live around JA now....never been forced to eat a chittlin' at gunpoint or bit by a pit bull, just a radio stolen out of an unlocked Jeep in the driveway when I was in high school. You're right in the middle of the white side of the metro area and really close to school....around 10 minutes from 90% of the stuff you will want to do or need to go.
