Hey guys...
Great pic... Kinda...
I was cruising an Anti-Hunting website when I found it... They are raising hell about it and are getting PeTA and anyone else they can involved in it. While they may be harmless to you as single hunters. They will eventually effect us all as a group. Personally, I think the pic is great, but it doesn't show hunters in a positive light. I have never been one to hide my hunting instincts or beliefs, but after reading the replies against this pic, I can see where it draws the "fence sitters" to the anti side. Just a heads up.... Don't bother flaming me, I'm not the one who is attacking you, I am just showing you where they are coming from.
Edit: Here is the link I found the pic at:

Go and give'em a pice of your mind or tell'em get screwed... I can't do it all myself... LOL

This thread was given as a link on one of our California duck hunting sites. Just wanted to say great pics, and that I really enjoyed the crap you guys dished out to the enviros on that other site. Good job!! I am just amazed that no matter how logical an argument you present to these guys, they still don't get it and come back with some cheesy personal attack. I think these must be those same limp wristed idiots that work in those espresso shops and cyber cafes in New York City.
I think that Zaxtor AH finally got whacked off the enviro site. He was quite a character. I think he said he was French...I'm no fan of the French.
Great site guys. Hope you don't mind if I cruise your site occasionally.
Happy hunting!

Thanks for the welcome Chuckle!
Hunting in CA isn't what it used to be, ever since they stopped burning the rice fields and started decomping the fields with water instead (thank the enviros for that). This equates to a LOT of water and habitat for the migrating birds. The ducks can now avoid the traditional clubs and refuges altogether. It really has made for some poor shooting the last few years. Of course, we get some good days when we get the right wind and some rain.
How about you guys? I have some friends from LA and MS and they said the shooting has been tough the last 2 or 3 years. Do you guys know why?
I hear that there's nothing else in this world like a southern duck shoot. I'm going to have to give it a whirl one of these days.

Man, you're really opening up a can of worms with a question like that! Yeah... we know exactly why:
1. no cold weather up north
2. too much food up north
3. robo ducks are killing all the young ducks before they reach us so we get all the older, wary ducks
4. the MS delta has been too dry
5. the flyway is changing
6. too much pressure from "new" greenhorn hunters
7. too many refuges leave the ducks too many unhuntable areas
8. USDFWS numbers are exagerated
9. we killed 'em all
Did I leave any out guys? I'm sure I left a few out, somebody will let me know.
You are right about one thing, there is nothing like a good ol' southern duck hunt. You oughta come try it out. There are a few good outfits on this website that can put you on some serious ducks. Mallards cupped up over the dekes, dog shakin' with anticipation...not a better feeling in the world!

Thanks Mudsucker! It looks like you have a pretty good crew on this site. I guess it may take me some time to pick up on that subtle southern humor though.....like is living in Alabama a bad thing????
If any of you guys ever find yourself coming out to California (I know you're asking....why would you ever want to do that, right???). But if you do, and we're in season, let me know. Hunting here may not be as good as the south, but we have a pretty good time of it.

Hey Chuckle:
Looks like your issues are similar to the issues we have in CA. Do they burn the rice fields down your way or are the decomping there too?
We have the problem of too many unhuntable areas as well. Either closed zones in the refuges, or rice farmers with lots of flooded land but they don't allow hunting. There has been some pressure put on the state and national refuges systems to rotate the closed zones periodically to improve the bird harvest, but they haven't done anything about it yet.
The robo situation is a real hot button over on our site (jesse's outdoors). One of our posters stated that he saw a spread of 10 robos at one blind. I've never seen more than 3 on a spread personally. It is getting out of hand. I've seen spreads that had multiple robos...multiple kite set ups...multiple jerk cords, etc., etc. It looked like they drove their blind through Cabela's with a magnet on. Leave it to a few crazy Californian's to take it too far.
It just goes to show you that even though we aren't close geographically, we all share similar issues and concerns.
