CANE CUTTER!!!!!
Benny, you want to see the rabbits thick? Take your butt to Nebraska and have a look. Never seen so many rabbits in all my life. There'll be 4 rabbits in every brush top you kick. It is absolutely amazing to see all the rabbit tracks after a big snow up there...not one square foot without a track through it.

Growing up back home, my friends and I hunted rabbits all over Coahoma, Bolivar, and Quitman counties. We would hunt from dawn to dusk. I never got tired of kicking ground cover and having a big ole canecutter take off like lightning. We didn't hunt with dogs very much. I also used to see a buttload of rabbits while cutting beans, but unfortunately I was driving a combine. I wasn't quite talented enough to run out on the platform and shoot a rabbit. Believe me, I tried.

we had a spot in some pines on some of our land where we see them ALL the time... We have shot 2 coyotes and 2 bobcats this year and that will help too....But we shot up alot of the rabbits last few years....we are gonna let them get back in there thick like several years ago before we shoot them again....we probably won't shoot a rabbit for about 3 years up there just to let them grow in population again

Benny, your "Cane Cutter" is none other than Sylvilagus aquaticus, the Swamp Rabbit...

Ive noticed more rabbits and quail over the last few years as the CRP and WRP program gain popularity
This past fall as we scouted for doves (excuse to drink beer) we noticed rabbits on the sides of the road in abundance near grounds that werent worked for agriculture...we have also been seeing a few more quail than we used to which still aint many
predators are bound to have an impact, especially coyotesd and f'in hawks
I have watched hawks run ducks out of a field or break

I Went Huntin just the other day just north of Fightin Bayou right on the Leflore Sunflower county line. Had dogs and all but only shot at 2 stinkin rabbits. 3 and 4 years ago we had 5 or 6 guys and all would get our limit in rabbits. Coyotes i think have alot to do with it. and the number of hawks in our area is outrageous. I just kinda gave up hope on huntin those rascals after the other day.
