Unless its changed, you cant use a treble hook while saltwater fishing in MS unless its on an artificial bait. If anyone needs some advice on the West side of the Coast let me know.

You are correct sir, and, Mr. Green Jeans will...I repeat...WILL...bust that booty

I need a little info on where, when, and the going rates for pimped out midgets...sounds kinda fun

My favorite rig...1/4 or 3/8 wieght on the end(bottom)...#2 hook with a live shrimp that has its tail pinched off and the hook run up and out the side of the pinched off tail about 6" above the weight...a second#2 hook about 6" above that with a small live pogey...deadly combo for sure, but, will snag or damage your line in the oyster reefs. You can verticly jig this combo while walking a pier and catch ANY flounder that may be in the area. Them dang pogeys are hard ta keep alive. Good areation and recycled water is the key for them dudes. Finger mullet or bull minnows are MUCH easier ta keep alive. Hit the open areas early, then head to bridges when the sun gets up good. Night fishing the piers with lights on in Back Bay can be VERY good. A Top Dog Jr. fished agressivly with brief pauses on a long cast over a reef or rock pile BEFORE and DURING sunup will get ya hooked up. You wont load the boat, but, the ones you do hook will be gooduns. When the sun gets up good, they lay off the top waters. The tide needs ta be up a bit and moving in or out for a good bite. Low or neep tides...STAY HOME

Dux Im trying to follow your rig, are you just pinching the end of the tail off? or deheading the shrimp? Personally if I was going to fish Heron Bay, I would go ahead and buy a LA lic. too, then you can fish into the Rigolets ( higher limits for specks) and the train tressel will heat up soon with some big trout!! Before you go PM me, Ill give you a full report of the area, the fishing will be getting right soon.

johnny he is saying to pinch the tail off. some people think it maes the shrimp easier to catch. Personally if I'm going to the trouble to mess with live shrimp, i am not going to kill them any faster than i have to by ripping appendages off. i think the attraction of live biat is how well they move around.

This is not a bash on your knowledge, this is a serious question. Are you sure that is where/how the state record was caught. i was pretty sure it was something and somewhere else.

to the orignal poster. That boat is only meant for sheltered waters down here, please pick your days and stay in somewhat protected areas. Fishing the bridges is a good bet. Honestly, you can have 10x the mobility and probably catch 5x the specks by wading and just using your car to hop spots quickly. You wouldnt' even need to tow the boat down.

Pinch just the tail off the live shrimp...insert hook point and run up through the body and out the side. Wont kill the shrimp, and, they will still make thier snapping action of swimming...leaves a scent trail...it works. The live pogey is the kicker. The state record I was refering to may be old, but, trust me...it happened...think the trout was around 10#...this was a few years ago. I lost the biggest dang trout I ever saw behind the seafood market on Ocean Springs beach with a mullet colored Top Dog Jr before sunup...thought it was a redfish till I went to lift him over the sea wall and it fell off the hook...dang near cried like a baby. Your little boat will work fine down thier Chad...ifn it aint windy. If the wind blows and ya still want to drowned some bait...go back into Fort Bayou. Medium action spinning outfit with around a 20# test will be good...some of this info took me more than 10 years to learn...take it or leave it

Kris, I was thinking the same thing, and at 25-40cents apiece I want my shrimp a jumping!! I prefer carolina style w/ floro carbon leader or cajun thunder or popping cork floro leader with a split shot to keep shrimp down.... the water temp is getting right and the fish are starting to turn on!! I predict a 10+ pound yellow mouth being caught in da Bay/ Wave area!! Not much fishing pressure last year is going to equal fishing that is scary good!!! I think the record is about 10-7 or 10-8 caught somewhere over there a few years ago.

Let me get this straight...you local boys pay money for bait? 40 cents for one shrimp...better do more than jump

The old state record i believe was 10lbs 6oz and Mr. Francis Creel caught it back in the late 60's early 70's timeframe... The new record was caught by Erik Quave and weighed 10lbs 7.66oz. back in 2008. I also do think like you do Johnny that some really nice trout will be caught over y'alls way this spring! No pressure for a whole season equals <<<Gator Trout Baby>>>!!!!! I'll be over that way quite a bit this spring... 8)
