Well I have it broken down for the most part. The axles is clearly stripped as it spins freely inside the ring gear. The worst part was I had to literally cut off my rear drum cover. The dang thing was rusted to the drum and brake backing plate. The ring gear looks to be in good shape so I'm going to just replace the axle and seals and clean the grit out of the diff.

that water getting in is what caused mine to go out... i had some grass wrapped around hub and it got under seal... brake drum cover tough to get off too... still bet you will need to replace diff or rear gear too... i did what you did second time... first time was to inspect, second time was new axle, third time was diff and new axle #2....

Did it...

Didn't have a choice as the bearings in the differential were shot and after looking the ring gear over the splines are rounded off outside of spec. The cause of all this was the left axle bearing falling apart. Rear Diff was full of mud and grit and by the time I'm through ordering parts it should be brand new minus having to buy the pinon. The drive shaft does separate from the pinon on mine so its not going to be a problem getting the shaft back into the u-joint yoke without removing the swing arm. That is my theory anyway and by looking at the repair manual I found on (Free :D ) it should be easy. The final parts list was all new bearings, ring gear, axle, and brake drum cover.

She better treat me right after all this...
