Dog vest--allow for growing room?

Hell I've never taken any of my dogs hunting when they weren't wearing a vest. No matter if it's a flooded field timber or whatever. I always just made sure it was snug enough not to snag on anything. I just like having that added protection from the cold and whatever there is under water that you can't see but can skin up a dog pretty good.
