I'm not a biased person. I've had a Ford, Chevrolet, and a Dodge. I will never own a Dodge again unless it is given to me. I've got a 2005 F150 now with 125k on it without a single hick up and it's never been in the shop. I had a 2003 Z and it stayed messed up. But that is neither here nor there. I could've gotten a lemon.

If you're going to look at the Fords I would say that unless you do a lot of off roading you'll be wasting your money on the FX4. A regular 4x4 will get a little better mileage and you can get more creature comforts for less money. It's all what you like but the only difference is in the suspension and the FX4's don't ride as good out on the highway as the regular 4x4's. My truck gets 21mpg hwy 16-17mpg city just daily driving. That's what I know take it or leave it.

Owned 2 chevy Z71 99 models, had to replace both tranny's at 100,000 miles... got a 06 f150 Fx4 crew cab and have put 70,000 miles on it the last 2 years and just turned 103,000... only problem I have had is ummmmm nothing!!! Runs perfect! does drink a lil gas though!!! I think both are quality trucks though... I'm a lil partial to ford now.. I was a chevy man but bailout and 6,000 worth of tranny's will make you think a lil harder when choosing your vehicle! good luck... I would go with GMC instead of Chevy if I was getting a Z71 though!

When I worked for a timber company they always bought us chevys. They stayed in the shop cause we were pretty rough on them. When I started buying my own trucks I went with ford, been 10 yrs and no major problems with 3 ford trucks. I think its funny when I meet a chevy on the road and its only got one daytime running light working, looks like they're winking at you, whats up with that?

Have you considered the Tundra with the 5.7L?

Those and the Titans are both bad but are serious fuel guzzlers.

My Tundra has averaged 18.7 mpg during its first 55k miles. (80% interstate driving) I routinely get close to 20 on a given tank if I go easy on the throttle.

I used to be a GM Fan. In 04 I bought a Ford just because I liked it.

After the GM Bailout ordeal, GM never has to worry about selling me another vehicle.

This is unbiased fact in my mind though. I drive a lot of rental vehicles for work.
I've driven a fair amount of crew cab 1500 2 wheel drive Chevy Pickups over the last 6 years. The rental car companies always buy the same vehicles in these, just different color. Same engine, same style, same options, etc...

Some of them ride smooth, some are rough as heck. Some will run like a cat with its booty on fire, and some are weak. Some drink gas, and some do ok.
There is no consistency in them. What I'm trying to say is, I think their quality control SUX.

With the shape GM has been in, do you think the employees can be happy? Do you want to buy a vehicle made by a bunch of unhappy people?

Pull a heavy trailer with a Ford and Chevy and see which one handles it better. Not because of engine power, but the truck itself. Being squirrely, squatting in rear end, etc. I was very impressed by the way my Ford handled a horse trailer vs my previous GMC. The GMC had more power than the Ford, but the Ford MUCH better handled a trailer. Keep that in mind if you pull a heavy boat, tractor, horses or the like.

My Z71 has taken everything I have thrown at it and then some, and this includes driving around the street in downtown jackson for 3 years!! Never owned a Ford, but I would get another Z71 without thinking twice!

Titans are gas hogs for sure but the Tundra, for what kind of numbers it puts out with that 5.7L, 18-20mpg is easy to live with and it's a Toyota. If I get a gas burner for my next truck, a Tundra it will be...

I think everyone should own one gm vehicle.... To remind them to stick with a ford. Proven fact gm's wiring has always had serious issuses IE gauges going out -> gm's wiring is done by delphi a bankrupt company. Gm has taken Obama money, then got on tv and lied to everyone saying they paid it off with interest, which they did from a second round of Obama money. Henry Ford snubbed his nose in the great depresion, the 70's and in 2008. Ford is just a more honorable copany. Not to mention the fact they are a better built truck. Sure every vehicle has issuse. But the majority of z71 fans i grew up with were the type of people who threw some strait pipes and cheap mud tires on thier truck and though they had a "Trail rig"

I love my GMC but we drive F150 work trucks up here in Colorado. The 08 F150 I drive up here has been through hell on oilfield & BLM roads. Up & down mountains, mud, & snow. 90% of the work trucks are F150 & F250 up here. I will buy a Ford when I get another 4x4.

Thanks for all the replys. I haven't counted but it seems about evenly split. After being a GM man for years, must say I'm leaning F150. Like the looks and not fan of the bailout thing either. If I can get what my duramax is worth either in trade or sale, may become a Ford owner.

Ive had 3 Z71 and bought 2010 f150 in Feb. No complaints on either truck. The new Fords are a nice truck with improved gas mileage. I have the big V8 and getting 18 mph big improvement over the previous years.
