All these depend on what type of job you have.

The cheapest cost of living is going to be in the Delta. The only town I'd live in the Delta is in Cleveland. The best hunting and fishing in the state is within 30 minutes in any direction.

Oxford and Madison are very good.........just a high cost of living. (the two most expensive housing markets)

Tupelo is very good and a little cheaper than oxford.

Southaven/Olive Branch area is very good as well.

I listed them in the Order I'd prefer to live in personally.

Mound Bayou. If you live there you don't have to work the government sends you a check around the first of ever month. You can live there for free in government subsidized housing and get a little debit card that you can go stock up on cool-aid and pork steaks each month. And if your lucky Oprah Winfrey will stop by and do a story about how improverished you are. And the hunting is pretty good around there too.

Alot of people have mentioned Cleveland and I agree...as long as it keeps the things that make it the nicest town in the delta. Only thing that would scare me is what if, and believe me this is hy-po-thetical, Cleveland High and Eastside merge or the lines are re drawn or what if DSU was forced to merge with Valley? Hell DSU has gone from around 25% black to over 50% in the past 5 years anyway. Cleveland is already having to annex new neighborhoods on the outskirts of town to keep the tax base and voters together, yet this didn't really grow the population because the folks were just moving out of town. If anything happens with the public schools tho, seems like more good folks would move out of the city limits since they have to send their kids to Bayou Academy anyway and aren't worried about school districts. Then, just like everywhere else, the reggins would slowly but surely start migrating to the parts left behind by the folks searching for bigger and better. All while the migration itself causes even more people to feel like they have to move to stay ahead of the crime curve.

Where there is a population of reggins it is only a matter of time til they take over. Why? Focking mathematics....literally.

Don't get me wrong, I love C'land. My g parents lived there all their life and I went to D State and thought I wanted to end up back there...just seems like a fragile situation. Am I over thinking this thing or do some of you that live around there feel the same way?

I agree that is a cool little corner of the world. I have a few friends that live there and your close to the big city, and southhaven, and other places, but tucked away in the country. Lots of road hunting though...

If I were to live anywhere on the coast, Ocean Springs has my vote. Pre Katrina Bay St Louis was cool. This is coming from a kid who a majority of his relatives lived in G'Port growing up. Good fishing...not so much on the hunting. But if I could fish the majoity of the time,(offshore and marsh), I think I could get used to it.

On Hattiesburg, while my granfather owned the Ready Mix Concrete plant and built alot of the town, and owned alot of the land on the left right past hwy98, I have never really spent much time there. Something about a land full of pine trees and ninjas gives me a bad feeling. I'll be hanging out there more often as my cousin and his girlfriend recently moved into some jive turkey cottages so I plan on going down and checking out some long distance wool. Again, not much for hunting, but there is some good pond fishing I guess. Seems real crowded too.

Tupelo-Northeast MS...I pobably the least about this part of MS than anyone else. I can honestly say that Columbus is as far NE as I have ever been.

Delta towns it would have to be Cleveland. It is great all the way around, but shopping, and stuff to keep you entertained is few and far between. Oh yeah and it may be close to some of the best hunting and fishing, but barring the obvious, if you want to kill big deer, it's gonna cost you some dolla dolla bills.

So the way I look at it is where I am at(Rankin County/Brandon) is about as good as it gets in my opinion. Losts to do, centrally located, pretty good hunting all the way around, and good enough jobs around to afford to travel and hunt. Realize that alot of these smalltowns may not cost alot to live in, but you may not be making alot either. There is a reason alot of guys I know live in Cleveland and hunt in the hills. We try to keep Rankin County on the Low Low though. Taxes are fairly cheap, country town atmosphere, there are a few turkeys(gobble gobble) here, losts of farm ponds to fish in, everything isnt near as high as Madison is, and not alot of arrogance for no reason...basically its a good old country town thats got good folks. Oh and we ARE the most Republican voting country in the US...proven fact...but dont go telling everybody. Oh and within 3 hours, I can be pretty much anywhere in the state.

I work in Memphis, Arkansas and all over north ms, and have spent some time in about every city in Mississippi. I stay in Cleveland. Gotta put a lot of miles on my truck because of it, but Memphis just never felt much like home. Of course, im about 5th generation so i may be a little biased, but it is a good town. Otherwise I would look at Oxford or Tupelo. Being an hour from Pickwick would be nice.

Cleveland will always be solid as long as the leadership is. Thats the only reason it has held its own all these years.

I've lived in Hattiesburg, Jackson, and Tupelo. Of the three I'd like to live in Hattiesburg. I HATETupelo. Moved here during my senior year of High School and it was the most cliquish place I havefd ever been to in my life. The fact that I came from a private school in Jackson didn't help matters any. Thought I'd left for good when I left going to USM. Ended up marrying a girl from here which is the only reason I came back. If not for that I'd have been out of here so fast I'd probably have blown my truck motor. Now my 4 girls are involved in everything here and my wife has a great job so I'm stuck.

I guess the good thing is that no one has the money to build a new school..........and to be honest with you the minorities here don't want one school. You'll also never see DSU merge with Valley......won't happen......legislature won't let it happen, neither will the minorities. I lived in Cleveland for 24 yrs, and would move back there in a heartbeat if my wife could get a decent job teaching there. Cleveland High is ok but I wouldn't send my child there, it has gotten alot darker over the last 6 yrs. Delta State has also gotten alot darker since my generation. The sorities had rush two weeks ago and my wife is envolved since she was a Tri delta at DSU. There were only 40 girls that went out for rush, that were white they had 225 rush for the African sororities. But, hunting and fishing in the area is second to none, good private school in Bayou Academy and houses are considerably cheaper than a larger city. No movie theater, only a hand full of eatin places. You are two hours from Memphrica, right at 2 hours from Jacktown, so you could drive and have shopping and all, closest movie theater is in Greenville.

I live in Memphrica now and trust me stay the hell away, this place is a sest pool just waiting to explode. There is stuff to do if you like sharing everything with thugs. Housing is outrageously high to get in a decent area.

I would probably look at something in Desoto County. You would be close to everything but somewhat secluded, hunting and fishing is close. I also think there county school system is pretty good. I think Oxford, Tupelo, and others are probably very nice places to live I just have never lived there so don't know any of the specifics.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Ok I see what you're saying with the ihl folks and minorities not allowing the DSU/MVSU merger, but DSU isn't going to be doing Cleveland any favors if its 95% cubs either. Like quack and I said, its moving that way and doesn't look to be slowing at all and in fact, is being fostered by fat booty Hilpert with his Yankee savior of the black man attitude. With DSU being on the white folk side of town, you gotta wonder how much of that would change with 2,000 coons walking the streets and dancing to the boom boom in front of every dorm. Not trying to be negative, but its hard to be optimistic when they're on the rise.

I'd vote for the suburbs of Jackson. Most have decent public schools (Madison, Clinton, Brandon and Rez area) and we have some great hospitals. Didn't realize how huge the hospital part was until my mom was having to drive to C'land once a month to bring my gmom down here to see her docs. You're 3 hours from Memphis and NOLA, equal distances from the great hunting in northwest MS and fishing on the coast, 3 or less hours to Oxford, Starkville, Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge, and we have a great variety of really good, local restaurants. Grew up here so I'm partial, tho.

I got a real nice trailer house for sale. Anybody in Pearl looking holla.

DSU for fact has gotten darker over the past 10 years. Dont know why either. I remember 100 white girls going thru rush 8 or 10 years ago and now its down to 40? I think once the brothers here about it they tell 10 friends. Kinda like your favorite public land duck hole.

ah the ole "city on wheels". Pearl is stepping its game up and trying to get rid of the title loan/check into cash skid row also known as hwy 80. Also put some new faces on the old strip centers and put some new ones in which is helping out.

Just ask the wife what rush numbers were at D State back in '04-'05 when we were there, it was north of 100.....so the numbers say that less than half the white chicks are showing up and reggins have doubled their % of the student body, all in the past 5 years. Also, they are dropping majors left and right, most notable one I remember is pre med.
