Had two SBE's. Both were jamming POS's. Kept clean as a surgery center, mounted solid to shoulder and bolt always slammed shut. Never worked right, either of them. Sold 'em.

I would stay clear and here's why- I have witnessed an sbe self destruct in the blind. When it happened it almost took my eye out. When my buddy fired the gun slung a spring out of the chamber... it came out so hard it damn near went thru the plywood sides of the blind. In my opinion, a gun of that price tag should not fail period.

it is too funny hearing you bash SBE's like that GC. If someone has as bad of an experience as you have, they should have right to openly talk dirty about them.
Personally, I bought an 870 in the fall of '98. I liked the way it shot, until it jammed on me.

I have sent it to two different gunsmiths, and of them says nothing is wrong and the other one says he can't figure out what is making it act up.
it will fire, then not let me open it; almost like the hammer would fall too far behind the bolt/ firing pin to be reset when pumped.
but either way that one gun ruined me on 870's.

Never had any trouble with the SBE, easy to swing and easy on the shoulder.

I would recommend it to everyone.

Uhh, GC. I've read that there story about 10 times now, and I been wonderin if you reload?

Don't reload steel. Too much of a PITA. I do reload Hevi-Shot. 4 years later, SBE's still suck.

Myself and several others have had problems with the newer, low-end 870s. The problem is simple to correct. Take a dremel and polish that area inside the barrel that the brass part of the cartridge seats when firing. If you look at the area closely, you'll see 'scratches" or "nicks" around the problem area. Small burrs need to be smoothed a little. Mass production for the sake of price reduction at its very finest.

I have had a SBE for about four years now. I have never had any problems duck hunting. I have, however, had problems with it not shooting light loads during dove and skeet shooting. People told me that it would just take a good breaking in and then it would shoot light loads like a dream. Well I would venture to say that I have shot at least thirty-five cases or so of dove or trap loads and probably ten cases of 3.5 steel and it still jams when I shoot loads with 1 oz or less. Even with this jamming problem, I still like my SBE very well. It is a great shooting gun. You just have to step up and buy the more expensive, heavier loads.

Have u tried the Winchester super x2. Good gun, had one for 4 years now. And , uh umm, is still the fastest shooting auto made.

Double R, thanks I am going to try that this evening. Hopefully it will work, I like to keep the gun around for friends and such. I just thought it was a dud and haven't given it much thought since I got a couple of benelli's, about 3 years ago.

so the super-x2 is the fastest shooting auto--and this matters because??? don't know about you guys, but even the slowest auto shoots faster than i can get back on target after a shot

I think they are over priced myself. But then again on certain things you get what you pay for.

I shoot a Benelli, a Remington and a Browning, each has its own quality and use. I enjoy them all still can't hit crap

Caller1 FYI the 3" benelli is the M1 super 90. not an M80...isn't that some sort of firecracker or something? I have had my SBE for about 6 years now. I can't say it hasn't jamed on me, call me lazy, but I haven't cleaned it this year and shooting kent's they tend to burn a little dirty so 1 time this year it had a shell lodge on its way from magazine to chamber. one simple pull on bolt and it went freely into chamber. A little rem oil which we happen to have had in boat at time and not a single jam since. I shoot those cheapo 7/8 oz dove loads out of mine JUST FINE. I shoot them under controlled circumstances when training my lab since "poppers" cost $11 a box vs $2.97 a box for the light loads. If any one of you don't believe me I will pay you $5 for every one that fails to cycle through my gun to every $1 you put up for every one that does...and I do NOT have that sure cycle thingy.

I used to have a Super Black POS. Key words "used to have". I now have a Beretta Extrema and a 390. I love them both. They are the most reliable guns I've ever owned. I hunt from a layout boat in rice fields alot and no matter how much mud and water I dump them in or drag them through, they just keep shooting.
