Well its obvious that the 870 is in the lead!!! That is all I have ever owned. Got a buddy that absolutely treats his like crap....Wooden stock, looks like he left in the rice field over the summer, squirts a little WD 40 on it at beginning of season and rolls on! Never a problem...

Oh no the shotgun question again....probably hundreds post on this subject here on ducksouth.
Surely the longer a man duck hunts the wealthier he becomes in experience,in reminiscence,in love of nature,if he goes out with the harvest of a quiet eye, free from the plague of himself

870!!!!!! THEY ARE THE BEST ALL AROUND HANDS DOWN!!!! DROP IN THE MUDD KEEPS ON SHOOTING!! FORGET ABOUT IT IN THE BOAT NO WORRIES WIPE A LITTLE RUST OFF OF HER AND SPRAY HER WITH SOME OIL GO HUNTING. LOL IF IT FALLS OFF A FOUR WHEELER RUNNING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD NO WORRIES PICK HER UP WIPE HER OFF AND KEEP ON SHOOTING.

ALL THE ABOVE HAS BEEN DONE TO ONE OF MINE AND I STILL HAVE HER TODAY!!!!

870, one more time. Own an 870 Express with the wood stock and forearm and still is the most dependable and toughest gun I have ever seen. Bought a synthetic 870 supermag last season and love it too. These guns don't know how to quit.

The 870 is a good gun but the Browning Pump is so much smoother to operate. I have owned several of both and I prefer the Browning. they also have a rebate so you can get some money back when you buy it. They are not but $150 or so more and worth every penny..

i have both the 870express 12 and BPS 3 1/2

pros of the 870, points good(varies by shooter), easy maintence, reliability unmatched, price is on the low end of shotguns they last nearly forever
cons of the 870, not very elegant, and is maybe a 7 outta 10 on smooth

bps pros, i personally don't like the way it points(varies by shooter), i have seen mine go down in the field severl times in extreme envirnments and weather, price is mid range, they tend to be very smooth outta the box
Cons of the BPS, hard to put back together for most people after its been field stripped or torn down for maintenece, reliability is alright can be tempmental in very cold wet conditions(aint that right james  ), 150 or so more than 870, and they need to be cleaned often, unlike 870 that was aparently designed for abuse

personally i shoot a Benelli SBE nearly all the time on ducks, i will swap to a O/U or my 870 when the weather turns real nasty(because of reliability)

just my $.02
