we just back from gulf shores last weekend and you could tell alot of folks had cancelled during the week. Our condo is next to the best western so you would see different people thru out the week but at the regular condos there were not alot of people. Usually it would take us about 30-45 mins to eat at some of the places there, all week long we were seated within 5-10 mins and eating within 5-10 of that. Only places that looked like it required a wait was Original Oyster House and Lu Lu's, we didnt try any of the places in Orange Beach. I would say make sure your condo has a pool if you go, just incase they shut down the beaches.

Spent the last 4 days in Orange Beach. The beaches were far from packed as were the restaurants.

Am quite sure the media is over-dramatizing this event as they typically do. Might be 130 miles of pristine white sand, but in the event one Tar-Baby rolls in, all camera's focus on it and then "The sky is falling" reaction quickly follows.

Needless to say, it is quite serious and let's hope they can get the flow under control soon. But, in the meantime, dabble-on the sunscreen and hit it!

Gulfshores had oil/ tar balls on beaches this weekend and no clean up crews to be seen except for on the news.

(I was not at the beach to witness, but saw pics and heard the women talking about it today at lunch)

I've seen it first hand and it's not as bad as they say right now...but it's only a matter of time. I don't where everyone is down here, but I've been on the boat everyday and haven't seen any in the bay, but can dang sure smell it, and saw it less than 2 miles off shore.

I just got home yesterday from Gulf Shores. Had a Blast!!!!! Beaches were clean and we were in the water having a ball. There were crews walking picking up stuff. Have no idea what they were getting but didnt bother us. They had rangers riding up and down the bech as well as helicopters flying quite frequently but all was well for us. So as far as the beaches closed, if they were we sure broke the law. Go have fun!!

So the fumes didn't bother you? I keep getting mixed answers. Some say yes, some say no.

its probably one of those things that if you sit there and think about it, it bothers you but if you go about your business and enjoy the vacation, it doesn't bother you.. thats my take on that.

No. Fumes did not bother us at all. If the fumes are there you must have to know what to be sniffing for. We had a ball.

We just got back from Destin yesterday. Everything was normal......there were some pretty strong afternoon storms though that had the waves pretty rough. A few of the tar balls started coming in Sunday but was over toward Ft. Walton Beach. There was no smell there at all.

I've got only a few weeks open at this point for June and July. We're on Bay in Panama City -only 1/4 mile from the Gulf. No oil in the Bay! My listing can be found at www.vrbo.com/235371 Speck's and Reds and Golf and restaurants all on site.

I'll reduce my rate for MSDucker's 15% - got to be 25 or older to rent.

I have been in perdido key since Friday, we plan to leavethis Friday. Oil just washed up on the beach today. Small blobs about an inch in size and one tar ball the size of a softball. We walked on the beach and got it all over our feet and was very hard to wash off. I'll report back in the morning when I see if it's any worse.
