There is an add in there about a club membership in Tunica and Quitman counties call David 662-357-5152 that is a heck of a deal for 3 or 4 buddies that like to hunt together.

h20_dog,
Your argument sounds like class warfare. How do you propose that we should limit what someone spends on something he or she wants. There are no "fair" prices, only market prices. Fairness has nothing to do with it. Should "Daddy Warbucks" not be allowed to buy a Browning shotgun because you can only afford an 870?
In the realm of fairness, "Daddy Warbucks" pays a higher percentage of his income to the government and thereby contributes more money to maintain the public WMAs. Should he be allowed more hunting privileges on those public lands? If we are concerned about "fairness", why should he pay more and get the same benefit as anyone who pays less?
If the prices for leases go up, then you have to save your money and sacrifice something else to get what you want. You cannot change what the market demands by wishing or whining.

I can't speak for MS leases (this year will be the first year I hunt here). But, I hear that the price of Arkansas leases was driven up for a time by corporation, and large businesses purchasing duck holes, and camps for their excutives, and board members (I know of three businesses that did just that, and my father-in-law was the victim of this two years ago $45000 for a four year lease on 50 acres ). Needless to say he found another duck hole. However, the way the economy is doing now, many of these leases will not be renewed, and the prices should fall (at least I hope).

Hey Professor,
I sure don't know what you "profess", but if you go back and read my previous post you'll see that I said "there is not a damn thing we can do about it".
If you think I advocate class warfare or class envy, you obviously don't know me. -nuf said.
By the way - my duckhole is owned by me, so I really ain't got a dog in this hunt anyway

It was this portion of your post that I was referring to when I mentioned class warfare/envy. You are correct, I do not know you and I was speaking to the language, certainly not to you as an individual. Seeing leases skyrocket in price is certainly frustrating and I agree that there is nothing that can be done. No hard feelings here.

I don't begrude the fact that anyone can afford anything. That's not the arguement that I or h20 was getting to. Its the people that can afford anything, when they see something someone else has, offer 3X as much. Sure it was natrual leases would go up. But it was the backstabbing that got us here. Man what for what a lot of these people pay to rent a hole, you can own a damn hole. When a man farms a field for 9 months, and makes 4 times as much off it for a duck lease, something is wrong. Wish all dem hibidders would pay 3X as much for their grocerys, then maybe a farmer wouldnt have to rent ducks to pay the bills. When you see folks pay 12 grand for a 40 acre field, when you could buy it for 800-1000 bucks an acre, and have it forever, and make 50 bucks an acre rent for farming from yet another fool that jumped on a sinking bandwagon, it doesnt make sense. travis

Duck leases weren't very expensive when the daily limit was one,two or three ducks a day. In fact there were very few "duck" leases. Most of the duck hunting came along with deer hunting leases.
The price of duck hunting will go down just a s surely as it has gone up. Either farmers will saturate the market with leases ,the duck population will crash or the economy will crash. Right now, as long as duck hunting is as trendy as it is we just have to grin and bear it.

Exactly,my Dad and I hunted the Il and MS river for years growing up for free. Matter a fact alot of farmers would try to pay us to get them some birds for the holidays, no one was going to hunt the river in that weather for a couple ducks or geese, unless they were fools? Well color us fools, some of those same spots now cost the kind of money your talking here.
But it will come down, robos will become less effective or banned, limits will fall, and regular duck hunting fools will remain and the trendy ones will leave.
It's all relative, and I need some relatives with more money.

Today's Commercial Appeal's contained fifty-eight ads in the hunting and fishing section. Twenty-nine concerned duck hunting. May not like it but the demand for duck hunting is too high, too trendy. The folks with money t0 burn will keep the prices high.
