This coming from a guy who joined the site on 28 May 2009 02:57 pm, has 8 posts and no location listed......

For real... seems like a weekend warrior. Won't be around for long

LOL!!! I'm glad some of you mentioned this. I've seen a few guys post on here telling us Alabama boys to stay home that I know for a fact live right over here with me, not saying that bpinson1 is one of those guys. I don't care to tell you where I'm from, I'll draw you a map. The best way to get some help is to be honest with everyone you deal with and rely on your character to make an impression. Bama.hunter, stick around and get to know some of the guys from the board and they may help you out but not on an open public forum. I've met a few of the guys in person. Of the ones I've met, they have all been great people. Just remember, you are a guest in their state. They are the ones living and paying taxes there.

Okay, to clear everything up I'm looking at a particular club in Indianola, MS and not wanting anyone to give me their hunting spots...some people find it hard to believe but you actually have to do some scouting before you hunt sometimes, which is a big part of successful hunts or just being dumb dog lucky. The club I’m looking at I’ve gotten reports that they have a lot of geese, but the ducks seem to be mostly divers and was just wondering what ever one else has been killing around this area. I’ve heard the hunting gets better later in the year as far as mallards, pintails, teal, etc.

Basically I wanted to know are other people having these same results in this area and are people actually able to work the geese in or are they shooting them on the fly and ambushing them. I’m not looking for a hand out, but just some prior history for this area. It would be a lot nicer to only drive 3 hours vs. 4.5-5 hours to Stuttgart.

Thanks for anyone's replies and help.

-Jay

Yea the duck hunting around Indianola is great... if ya like shootin spoonbilled sky carp (shovelers). As for the geese oh who cares they are all snows and blues, taste like crap and eat all the grain. I put it this way we have what we call the shat duck shoot out in nola round christmas every year. As far as i am concerned have at it.

Innocent enough question. What is the harm in giving him a straight answer?

Indianola is on the south end of Sunflower COunty. The north end of the county has some of the best duck hunting in the US but the south end generally does not compare. Ducks being ducks, they like what they like. This being said, every year is different and you cant win if you are not in the game. Hunt for the right reason and you will have a great hunt everytime you go.

Also, builld it and they will come. Give ducks food, water and shelter, meaning hunt 3 mornings per week max, no aftrnoon hunts ever, quit by 9AM, dont fire a shot for the first three years on a newly created duck hole so the birds imprint and you will have lots of birds for years.

I give you these tips gleaned from 38 years of duck hunting and 30 years of managing ducks (and duck hunters) for free as a public service. Everythng else costs you!

I grew up in Nola and PMed the gentleman from Bama....hopefully i can sort out the gentleman planters from the rouge leasors.

Public Land around Nola.........BS..Quiver River and Sunflower River..........you've never hunted like a redneck till you hunted on this body of water on a freeze up. Benson Brake is for sale..Killed my first band there in 74'....nice brake...Generally Nola has far more cotton based land and the northen part of county has more grain. It ain't what it once was............

We killed right at 600 ducks last year in 7 weekends. I dunno, but don't seem too bad for weekend warriors.

Good luck guys
