WTF DUDE!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't know where the public land is or what type terrain it is, how in the hell do you think you are gonna find it and hunt it? All you'll do is !&*@ up someone elses hunt. For the same price you'll spend stumbling around blindly on public land and not killing anything for a weekend you could day lease a pit from a farmer.

on a serious note how do people down there view shooting birds at tree level? Cause sometimes they just wont come all the way down. We see it as just another way to put meat in the cooler.

If all I am after is meat, I will just go kill the neighbor's dog. no need to sky bust.

however i do shoot a 10 gauge with an extended range choke so i wouldnt call it sky busting, u can easily kill ducks that would be consider too high for a 12 gauge.

IMO, that ain't duck hunting. That's pass shooting at tree top ducks. Just stick to video games.

Very few timber hunters would welcome you with a 10 ga. It's often viewed as an attempted extension of one's manhood. We shoot 20's and even smaller gauges in the timber we hunt. A lot of public places have this problem with hunters tree-topping ducks which is why it's so hard to work them in some of those areas.

I suggest if you want to hunt these areas is get a topo map and learn them. Many locals have holes they have hunted for years and claim them as theirs so often less than friendly "suggestions" are exchanged in the dark. It's tough getting established in any area and private ground is pretty pricey and well tended. We have guys at times get caught on our leases as they couldn't resist or didn't think it was a big deal to try and shoot a few. Believe me, Arkansas trespass laws can be tough and getting on someone's lease w/o permission isn't something you want to do.

Obviously this guy is messing with all of you about the 10 gauge deal. I hope! But anyways I wouldnt just go of for my first trip in the public "Timber" up that way without being with someone that has a claimed hole. I have seen some things happen up there were down right dirty for someone being in a claimed hole and also for shooting swing ducks. My advise would be to go with someone that knows the area first before venturing out on your own. Just my .02 unless you know how to swim like Michael Phelps.

I will tell you that the majority of guys that hunt day in and day out on the public lands in NE Arkansas don't take to kind to OOT's. I would take the advice you have been given and be cautious when venturing up that way.

I have since made friends with some of the regulars but it wasn't fun and game the first time I went. One other thing.. How do you feel about getting pelleted throughout the morning?

i was joking about the 10 gauge lol, i actually favor the sweet 16 for close up shooting. speakn of that has anyone heard anything else about a push for making more nontox 16 gauge shells hit the shelves for a reasonable price?

nontoxic and reasonable price don't generally belong in the same sentence anymore. If you hear of something like that, let us know.

There is soooo much i wanna tell this guy, but its just not worth the breath or the tire fingers to type it out.

I will say this about this guy, OBAMA's lates foot'n'mouth comment fits perfectly " he acted stupily"

to answer you question,

All depends on rainfall and water levels. Rivers at flood or near flood stage will offer the most and best hunting. Some of the same areas can be hunted at lower water levels but you need to know where the holes are and possibly have 2 boats.

Greentrees will be flooded, good luck with the race. Most are Tough to navigate in the daytime for a new person. Navigation-- Where are you going? Got to be in a good spot. Got to beat the locals to it! Depending on where you are hunting, decoys will be left out all year so--- just because there are deks in a hole doesnt mean its worth a crap. The very best advice I can give you is THERE IS A HELL OF A LEARNING CURVE!!!!!! Your first few times will most likely be productive only in the sense of gathereing info. May want to go up before the season, best advice but that depends on the water levels in the rivers.

Oh, you cant access the greentrees after 12- 1 whatever time in the afternoon thus no scouting!

I hunted a few places last year and will again this year. I didnt kill many birds and quite honestly did not learn much about the areas other than you can get your butt lost as hell!!! Water in the rivers was LOW and there were not many birds in the area when I went so--.

When it gets closer to the season or when you are planning a trip give me a pm and I will go with ya.
