Hunting leases have gotten outright ridiculous in Mississippi... You'd be better off buying 2 hunts at Tara Wildlife or leasing land in other states... I'd rather buy a hunt in Illinois or put in for a preference point to hunt Iowa... Hunting has become the rich man sport especially on the mississippi river and big black.... There is no way I would pay $6000 to hunt property that may produce 130-150 inch whitetails... You'd be better off buying a mobile home on 40 acres in Iowa and claiming it your primary residence and have access to 150+ Inch Whitetails and not to mention you can kill 3 bucks as a resident in Iowa... Not to mention the Turkey hunting is crazy in the midwest... More and more people are getting out of hunting and doing other things b/c these people are leasing land just to lease it and to keep people off it... Most of it doesn't even get hunted or managed the right way... Good luck with your search Snot!!! I'll keep playin golf!!

Snot, our place is on Steele Bayou between Cary and Onward. I dofeel very fortunate to have our family place there. My grandfather bought the land in the 40's for approx. 8-10/acre. The hunting is good but not 42/acre good. I would rather buy a couple of guided hunts in the Midwest like Trey said than pay the exorbitant lease rates for average Delta hunting land. Just my opinion.

I understand where he is coming from by matching it if they have had it that long. The only problem to me with paying to go out of state is that you will only be there for a short period of time and may or may not kill and then there is the expense of traveling and being away from family. If you deer, duck, and turkey hunt and a place has all three then $6,000 is not bad at all for a year of hunting and the best part is you don't have to drive 10 hour's to get there and you can hunt it as much as you want whenever you want and kill what you want. If you go out of state on a guided hunt to kill a deer, duck, and turkey one time a year you will have spent $6,000 if not more for a total of 3 weeks of hunting. Just my opinion.

First off who said anything about 6k and secondly I wouldn't drop a hammer on anything less than 140 class anyway. Preferrably 150 plus. You probably have never killed a 150 class deer or better. If you had and enjoy it money wouldn't be a factor. You'd find a way! If it comes to that Id just rather quit hunting all together! This place is just like any other is not good for where it is or what it is. It's decent from all the blood sweat and effort that's been put into it over the years. You can make most anyplace a quality place with a lot of effort, control and good management practices.

28000 for 646 acres with 6 members = 4500 + food plots, gas, food and everything else is gonna cost you about $6000 a year... Yea you could get 10 members or even more but I'm just looking at it like most people do saying 100 acres/member! So that's where I get my number from... I have killed my share of P&Y's and I promise you I got some that will top 150 inches and I didn't drop the hammer on them either, I slung my arrow through their lungs... Anybody can get lucky and slide a cartridge through the chamber and peepee the hammer and smoke one @ 200 yards... Nobody said anything about you not knowing how to hunt but cocking the hammer and drawing back on one at 20 yards are 2 different things!!! I'm just sayin there is noway I would pay that kind of money to LEASE property when you put all that blood and sweat into to lose it to someone with a ton of money a few years later... Your right, several people have got out of hunting because they can't afford it... I wouldn't mind paying that kind of money, 1. if I had it to spend, 2. I OWNED the land! You never know who is gonna come in and lease it out from under you! If your not cocking your hammer on a 140in class, then I hope your neighbors are as patient as you are because you can only manage 646 acres as good as your neighbor is and I haven't met too many MS hunters that will pass on a 140in whitetail... I bet your booty if you pass a 140in 8pt and he walks by another member in your camp, I promise you he will shoot his booty....If you pass that deer up then you are a better person than most in this state.... If I'm in my lock on and 140 class walks by me and he is 4 years or older then he will get shot!!! Especially with the stick and string.. If you are killing 3 150+ whitetails a year then I would say $6,000 is not too much... I doubt that has happened!!!

We dont even deer hunt out there! No I never said I kill 3 150 inch deer a year either. But I usually kill one maybe 2. I do have my own land and the owners around me do the same too. I join Cottonwood on one side of me and Katidid on the other with ATCO land to my west. So year Im in deer country.

Who gives a $#!+. If BR549 matched the bid thats his bidness. If i want to spend $6,000 yr on a place then thats mine. I dont blame him on matching the bid. You just cant expect to bid on a section that has established leaseholders on it and get it for nothing. Being on a place for a long time carries some sort of emotional value that you cant put a price on. And there is plenty of land in the delta that is leasing for less than $20.

There are 12 -14 members, most are farmers so they can plant the duck holes with no cost because it is written off on the farm. There is no deer hunting as long as duck season is open. It is probably the closest thing you can get to fighting bayou and other big duck clubs. The price is high but not the highest in Issaquena county. Magna Vista has a school section that is 2200 acres on the MS river (not sure how it became 2200 instead of 640) that they pay 50.00 dollars an acre for

I didnt turn my bid sheet in because I was told by the school board office that this was their best property and they expected the price to triple. I knew this was a hunting club and if it was any good they would match any bid so I didnt waste my time nor try to run someone else's lease up.
