also seen him make one out of a cardboard box, a grate w/bricks under it, electric heating element & thermometer for smoking salmon...i know he doesn't come up with all this stuff himself, but some of the stuff he does is pretty ingenuitive

check out a wood pellet grill from traeger industries. Combines the benefits of charcoal with that of gas.

I did this last year when my last expensive stainless grill rusted out. Parts to repair it were more than a new one. I looked at everything and came to the conclusion that anything under $500 was going to have rust issues sooner or later. I went with a Char-Broil because the parts were cheap (relatively) and plentiful. Watch Lowes and Home Despot. Father's day is coming up and they'll run some good sales. I bought mine around father's day last year and saved around a $100.

or shop local and get the same price and keep the $ in your community..... not to mention much easier getting replacement parts and service

Weber grill for sure. I have had one for five or six years now and just a few months ago they sent me a new burner under warranty for it. It was still working but I had tried to clean it and should not have and put a whole in the burner so I had to replace it. We probably cook on it 3 to 4 times per week.. It is a Genesis Gold. All stainless steel grates and burners. I will never buy anything else but another one if this grill does ever where out.

+1 on the Holland grill. Garunteed no flare ups even when cooking 75 duck breasts wrapped in bacon. Cooks on only one temp. 400. I like it a lot, however I have a green egg also.

I try to buy local whenever I can. Around here for a grill local would have meant mucho mas $$$ or Wal-Mart or Sears. I don't make enough not to watch my budget.
