This is coming from a dentist. Be careful when dealing with sedation dentistry. You can become a sedation dentist by taking a few weekend courses and applying for the permit. anybody can give you that "one little pill", but you have to know what you are doing when things go south. Granted, sedation dentistry is pretty safe but there are risks involved. I would prefer to have an anesthesiologist or crna doing the sedation and a dentist doing the dentistry. Just my 2 cents.

Putting somebody to sleep is easy. Waking them up is the hard part.

I HATED dentists until I went to Mayatte in Brandon. He did a crown, never felt a thing. Nothing. Last dentist that did a crown used a ball peen hammer, chisel and 220 voltage for special affect. Or so I'm guessing. Mayatte and his staff are first class. .

I too was deathly afraid of the dentist. I don't mean normal fear, I'm talking about a phobia. I attributed it to a "traumatic" experience as a child. Anyway, I would highly suggest looking into sedation. By all means do the research and find someone qualified, but if you have a true phobia of the dentist it's the only way to go.

I ended up needing several crowns and a couple of implants for teeth that had been pulled for orthodontic work. The sedation thing killed 2 birds with one stone for me. First, it alleviated the fear. Secondly, because I had to have extensive work done, it allowed me to have all of the work done in one sitting as opposed to several 2 or 3 hour visits. This really helped with time management as I only had to take one day off of work.

They gave me a valium to take the night before to alleviate any anxiety and then a small pill to take 1 hour prior to my appointment. I took the pill at 6 a.m. and headed to the dentist. The last thing I remember was listening to Jimmy Buffett's "God's own drunk" at about 6:45. I woke up in my bed around 3:30 that afternoon. I believe the sedation was around $250 or so extra. In any case, it was well worth it.

You need to go see Dr. Danny Okeefe on Tree Tops Blvd off Lakeland. He is the only dentist in the Jackson area that has a anesthesiologist come to the office to provide the sedation for his patients. So, you have a doctor that is focused on taking care of you while he does the dentistry. This is way more "taking a pill" -- they put you to sleep!!!! Danny is my dentist and he is best I know of. You can reach his office at 601-936-2526.

Gonna do the right thing and keep my appointment with Germany. Based on my impression I may decide to go elsewhere. I have decided to call Mayatte as my second choice or Bobby Moodys wife(Tdog). I am not having any work done tomorrow only gettin my grill checked for future work of a broken tooth from my last dentist appt. So i am not going to die either way on this trip.

Doing the right thing is not keeping your appt. I'll discuss some things with you if you want about your choice of Germany. I'll just state the facts that he's been under investigation for a couple of years by the MS Board of Dental Examiners and even had his license taken away for a while within the last year. That's public knowledge so I'm not telling you anything I shouldn't. Shaun Mayette is a good dentist like they said. I can also give you names of others depending on where you live around Jackson. Germany does so much advertising b/c he wouldn't get anything any other way. I've personally been called by the board and asked to come to meet with them b/c I've personally had to correct things on patients that he did and they complained about to the board. You can check out Jason at Belle Meade Dental on Lakeland as well....or there are some good ones in the Ridgeland/Madison area too. If you'll go to a good dentist you won't need sedation or valium or anything else like that.
