I love my old 870, i know for a fact my benelli woon't go through the same awful conditions and still fire every shot, but the new ones are simply not the same gun, i have seen to many new ones( from the last 4 to five years that have probs mostly trigger mech failing completly, but a lot of 3.5 in guns hang on eject due to dust cover stickingto far forward. i still take mine when reliability in bad conditions is a must, but i have come to appreciate the lower recoil of my benelli so i hunt with it the most.

If you could be a little more descriptive as to your malfunction maybe we could diagnose it. I worked on thousands of 870's over the years for Uncle Sam. I've seen some weird stuff happen with that gun!

Is the hammer releasing? Does the Action Bar Release reset? Just off the cuff, strictly a guess mind you, it sounds like a trigger group failure. The more info you can provide the better.

AND BTW! A Remington 870 can and will fire even if it is malfunctioning. It will also fire if it is down loaded improperly. Remember that weapon IS NOT CAPABLE of imobilizing the firing pin. If it is dropped hard enough, or the firing pin is jammed forward from debris (I.E. dirty gun) and the bolt moves forward with enough inertia it can fire. I have seen this repeatedly. I have done numerous mishap reports, and once had the same thing happen to my son and I dove hunting! It scared the poop out of me !

This is not to say that the time tested 870 is any more, or less, reliable and safe as any other shotgun in its class. I would just recommend that you maintain those guns within the manufacturers specs. and be ever vigilant to where that muzzle is pointing.
