Re: I am ashamed of so many of us today.
It cracks me up at how the "reverend" that gave the benediction can be unquestionably racist in his PRAYER, and everything about this whole inauguration is borderline racist and yet you get your drawers in a bunch because of some comments on here. All I heard out of the media and during the inauguration today was about his color. If the same things had been said at a white president's inauguration you would never hear the end of it by the dark side. It was my understanding that we were not to focus on the color of skin but the content of character yet all I heard today was about the color of his skin. And it's the character of Obama that has caused him to loose my respect. I'm still trying to figure out how to respect the office while having no respect for the man. Maybe somebody can help me figure that one out. I don't wish that he would be shot or that any ill will would come on him. The man is a father and a husband and I would hate to see someone try and harm him. I just hate seeing him as the our President.

Jake Lunsford wrote:The thread "Who is Watching" saddens me.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 23 years old. Born and bred in Franklin County Georgia, in a place where you can still walk down the main road with a gun on your shoulder without fearing the authorities. You won't find someone who is more proud of their heritage as a Southerner and a Georgian. I am a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, and I am proud of it. I served one tour in Afghanistan where I fought with my brothers of all colors, religions, and backgrounds for a common cause. I was brought up to believe in America and not ask what She can do for me, but what I can do for Her, in the words of John F. Kennedy. I am a registered republican and a staunch conservative. I am white and not ashamed of it, nor do I think that it makes me better than anyone else. I get out of the Corps in 7 months from yesterday.
I am sure that I share a background similar to many of you.
I am ashamed of what I read here on this board. I have not read or heard spoken anything that makes me as sad for the future of our nation as some of the comments I have read here today on the thread that is referenced above. Sneid comments about our new president. Racist comments about him. Statements like, "to see where the bullet came from," and ,"you mean nobody tried?" The people who write these things should be ashamed of themselves to the utmost degree. We as Americans hold sacred freedoms that no other nation possesses, like the freedom of speech. But should we use that right and freedom to teach our children hate, disrespect to the highest elected office in our country, racism, intolerance of others? Should we be so childish as to ask that our children be excused from watching the presidential innauguration at school? Or should we be proud that we encourage them to take interest in the forging of our history? Should we not be proud that we urge our children to look at the world and form their own opinions, instead of forcing our own pathetic (in the case of some posters here) agendas upon them?
I believe that this is only my second or third post on this board, and it will probably be my last after what I have seen today. Not one of you said anything to those who would insult the highest office in our nation, so I feel I must. I believe in the Bill of Rights, but where I come from you have the right to be punched in the face for crossing the line. I can't do that here. Maybe that is wrong of me to desire. But who do you think you are to be so disrespectful to our nation and those who have served it, do serve it, and will serve it as to make such comments?
Stating what is on your mind is one thing. Supporting the assasination of our president with a smiling face is another.
Semper Fidelis,
Sgt Jake F. Lunsford
I read this and know where you are coming from but disagree with a good bit of it or at least know there is another side to it. I made remarks in that post and went back and re-read the entire thing and don't see where where anyone is being so disrespectful or disrespecting the office of the president. He simply made a comment on what several people across the country thought some crazy person might try. We live in a world of idiots and always expect the worst to come out in people. Also, how was anyone being disrespectful to "those who have served it, do serve it, and will serve it"? I personally hope Pres. Obama will do the right things for our country but know he was put in office for all the wrong reasons. You act like no one in the post knows anything about serving our country. I come from a family in which my generation is the first to not serve in the armed forces...father was in the army, grandfather fought in WWII in Pusan, way back had a grandfather that was a general. My roomate up until 3 years ago was a Marine squad leader and carried a 50 caliber machine gun in Desert Storm. I have 4 cousins in Iraq as we speak. I wanted to be a fighter pilot my entire life but I was influenced by parents to go to college on a free ride b/c of academics and athletics and on to the Med Center to put Dr. in front of my name. I now get to work my butt off everyday in the poorest region of the country giving away over $1,000,000 worth of healthcare each year. You haven't been around those very people as much as most of us in the MS Delta have.....it makes you think differently and yes, speak differently. I again didn't get the same meaning from re-reading the thread as you did.......maybe it's because most of the threads on here are in a joking manner and we are used to it (most of it is to let steam off at work or after going to a store and facing the people we face in the Delta each and everyday). I lived in Detroit for 2-3 years and the Democrats there are much different than the ones here. Don't be offended and don't take it that way.....it's an enjoyable board. I think you'll think differently of Pres. Obama as a person as well when you see some of his true fundamental beliefs. He's our President so I support him, although I don't like what he stands for......and yes, I'm glad we have that right.

Re: I am ashamed of so many of us today.
The true sad thing is that so many I have seen today state, we will now stand behind this pres and push america forward. Where these lazy folks been? Sitting on the front porch waiting on everyone else same place they will be once the dust settles. Its just aggrevating that folks seem now that things will be that much different cause he is black and thats a fact. True racism speaks through them publicly admiting that they haven't been behind the US before today.

With that said I wish him the best of luck...But people need to realize how serious his job is...half of the people who voted him into this office didn't know his vp or who al qaeda is?? It was all about color

I think you are wrong in a lot of what you have said about my post. Especially the part about me acting like no one else has served. I know there are probably a lot of veterans here as well. And being a doctor for cheap is serving too. Just in a different way. I was just trying to make the point that badmouthing the president, no matter if you like him or not, in a completely ignorant way is disrespectful and unpatriotic. I didn't like Bush that much, but I would never talk about him the way some of you talked about his replacement. That is not the American way. We can disagree without being totally insulting to our nation
Duck picker,
It became about race when somebody said," he can't repeat after the white man - wasup nikka? where my money" - and it goes on and on. You are right about the media. But if you have a problem with them, write them a letter. I'm talking about people here.
jake, first of all i'll say thank you for all that you do.
i have a question, and why we may disagree on this topic here, i am curious to your opinion..... you say that any comments to our new leader are unpatriotic..... your saying that no matter what, even if we agree or not.... we have an obligation to support him as our leader, if i understand you correctly...... which i can see your point..... but my question is.... how is the comments on another theard any less unpatriotic than you making the comment that you wished you could choose whose freedom you would and would not fight for in this country?
curious to your thoughts.... not stirring a pot.

I did my 4 in the Navy Sgt. Thank you for carrying the torch of freedom. I think Judge JB and I did say a little something about the note to school. I did make light of the numbnut from Brookhaven MS that was arrested for his internet threats because he said he needed a "ride" to DC to carry out his plan, oh, and he needed someone to lend him a gun!
WHAT A MORON! Thanks for your service and stick around. Alot of good guys on this board. They were just trying to be funny and it came off wrong! He was not my candidate but he is now the Prez, I hope he succeds as the alternative will NOT be good for the USofA!

Since freedom of speech is still alive and well, I'm gonna vent like hell, so send the kids to the other end of the house.
Let me tell you guys something, including the good Sgt.(and I'm a vet, too, btw)...the whole damned election, inaugaration, etc. absolutely reeked with racism, and that's the way the media, the liberal politicians, and especially the blacks wanted it....blacks will NEVER let go of it because they don't want it to go away....whining and complaining about racism has become their full-time mantra....I'll bet, if you send them a full-sized 24 carat gold monkey, in the mail each month, blacks will bitch because the monkey doesn't sing rap music....how long and how much apologizing, sucking up, and paying out must the white man continue to do, to appease blacks for slavery, which NEVER affected a single one of them???....damn, what else do they want???....name one damn thing that blacks have whined about that the government hasn't given them....go ahead, try to name something.....if you say "respect", well I'm sorry to tell you that "respect" must be earned....now that they've finally got one of their own(well, actually only 1/2 black) in the whitehouse, maybe they'll shut the fnck up!!!....on a side note, I pay $3,800 per month to keep my dad in a nursing home, while the black guy in the bed next to him stays FREE just because he's black and has been on welfare most of his life...guys, this $#!+ has got to stop, but Hussein Obama isn't gonna take a second glance at the white working class people.
I DARE a black person to come up to me, and complain about a damn thing, now!!!
Btw, just wondering, Sarge, what's your MOS?....what's your company designation?....where did you do your boot time?....thanks for your service....I sure woulda liked to have heard someone say "thanks soldier", but I came outta the Vietnam era, and as everyone knows, that wasn't a "real war", right???

Re: I am ashamed of so many of us today.
I haven't been a supporter of his through his whole campaign. Went and hung yard signs for McCain/Palin, am a staunch republican. However, as of today Obama is our president, like it or not, it's how our goverment was set up, a vote by the people.
As much as I hate to say it, I now hope with all my heart that Obama can make this country a better place to live. We have no other choice for the next four years. For those that really don't like it, find me a better country to live in where taxes are cheaper, and the goverment is less of a problem. I don't think there exists such a place.
Soon, very soon white people will be the minority in this country and Obama is just the beginning. So we better start hoping for the best.

Re: I am ashamed of so many of us today.
Please don't feel that you have to defend yourself and we appreciate your service but there have been plenty of posts of here "disrespectful" of Bush. Did you voice opposition to those posts? I think we are more critical of the man rather than the office. Respect the position of POTUS but it is not wise to blindly follow. Just as in the military you are to respect commanding officers and follow orders but you have the moral obligation not to follow any illegal orders. The position is infallible but the man is.
I respect the POSITION of POTUS but I always hold a measure of uneasiness about the person who occupies that position. I feel that it is the duty of the American people to keep a watchful eye on our elected officials and hold them accountable. Am I glad that a black has been elected yes. Am I glad it's BHO, no. His previous speeches and associations lead me to not trust, at best his ability to lead this nation, and at worst his intentions to undermine the very fabric of our nation.
What I am ashamed of is the American people who can be led blindly by a media persona rather than character and qualification. It's like we have a new class system like they had in England but we are ruled by media celebrity and political dynasty. The political process in America is broke and the people that can fix it are asleep at the wheel. "For the People BY THE PEOPLE"

Lighten up a little guys. The majority of the comments, (especially mine) were a joke. A bad joke, but none the less a
joke. I'm not gonna speak for everyone, because some may have meant it, but there are a lot of comedians on here and
a lot of people that are wound a little too tight and should switch to decaf. I commend and thank you for everyones services
to this great country. Just hope this guy and his liberal compandres don't turn it into a not so great country. Take it easy
guys, and don't take anything you read on this board seriously..... If you do then you need to get a hobby.

Re: I am ashamed of so many of us today.
He will only be the savior of the african american community until he crosses them. When they all realize that he can not fulfill the promises he made them they will drop him like a bad habit. Once they see that you will still have to go to college to receive a degree and that jobs like being a doctor or a lawyer will not be handed to them because of the color of their skin, it's over. After all this he will not be the first african american president. He will quickly become the first mixed president who is racist against blacks. Obama is a young educated man who has a Kenyan father and a white mother. He has not been raised in the projects nor has he been on welfare. In all honesty the only thing he has in common with most people that voted for him is the color of his skin. He has had the nerve to say this election has not been about race. However if you watched the TV yesterday it was easy to tell otherwise. What a shame! This will be another four years of a more liberal Bill Clinton. Obama supports abortion, homosexual marriage, and stem cell research. But he thanks and prays to God. It should be hard for any Christian to support someone of that moral standing. The next four years will be interesting!
