That's a common lesson everyone that river hunts learns by experience. That's why I'm laughing.....not 'at', but 'with' you.

Years ago 3 groups of us decided we'd team-up and put-out everything we had (decoys). Mine held, group #2's held.....group #3's floated off and lodged about 150yds out......guess where the birds landed? ..........Group #3 broke their blind down and went 'retrieving'.......then they brought'em back in the spread and un-did two more wraps. "I told y'all to tie-off 8 feet o' line.

I remember that was on my birthday.......10 years ago........killed a black duck that day.

Tarred braided line works for us (in dark - deep) water. I've gone to 100# monofilament on shallow water decoys.......(less than 4 feet o' line on the decoy).........so the dark line doesn't show. I don't know if ducks can see decoy lines or not, but why take the chance?

dukhunter wrote:how deep are you hunting? if its under 6 feet I use the thinest plactic coated cable you can find, it will add a little weight but not too bad and it never tangles, look at the RIG EM RIGHT weight systems thats how I did mine and I love em. but I have several dzn made up with the tared braid and egg sinkers for my weights I use surgical tubing at the end to secure it around the head or keel. I realy make my own weights too they just look kinda like egg weights. I try not to buy anything..........but thats just me.....

where can i find some of this surgical tubing you're talking about......looked everywhere

Here's a good but on some 300 lb. mono if you guys need any. I ordered some on Tuesday and it was here Friday. $ 7.99 per 100 yd. spool, but shipping was $8.50 for the two spools together. So it averaged out to about $12.00 a spool.
