Thanks for the replies.

I do try to use real ducks as often as possible but are hard to come by here most times.

She is 3 years old.Not a puppy and at the seasoned level.

We have not trained since Jan.because I had totaL Achillies reconstruction and then 2 months ago some one broke in the backyard while I was out on call and she got out and was hit.

She is fully recovered now and I am ready to get serious with the training again since we have a lot of catching up to do.

I think I will stay with the dokkens.

If you train with em they will pick em up but if you don't they just don't like em and that aint the dog playin the owner it is just confused. Dog picked up dokken first try but most dogs that have never picked up and avery one either didn't pick it up or had trouble because they are hard. Sure fetch means fetch but at 394 yards that is hard to enforce. Just like a good dove hunt.... the first dove is always different for em. Yea they pick it up but don't like it due to alll the stinkin feathers and the 100 degree heat. You could throw 2 litter coke bottles out of a winger and your dog mite get it but probably won't. Just give you that WTF look and come on back....

i keep some snipe to force on... if a dog will pick up a snipe, it'll pick up bout any bird that flies. makes that first dove a lot less of a mess. frozen dove thats wet is a good too, talk bout slimy mess. travis

Well "hypothetically speaking" lets say at a dove hunt that is kinda slow and not much action going on and a cowbird or chimmey sweep flies by boy that hypothetically speaking can or could be something for a dog to retrieve. Crows are the worst though!!!

There's a new mid size ATB called the EZ bird coming out that looks to be a cure for what folks don't like about the full size ATB's.

We had a dog refuse to pick one up in the water today.......had to throw out a duck for the dog. I think the dog thought it was decoy........Kinda funny!

Dog fetch........period..........don't matter what it is. One must question the force fetch training if your dog refuses to pick up an ATB and bring it to hand. My dog will bring me a brick, I promise. He don't like it, but he will do it. But hey, throw them cookies or something, I'll bet they pick those up...............cause they like them!

Who said they WON'T pick them up? Or that they refuse to deliver to hand? Mine picked up half a dozen in the water today, happy as a clam. Doesn't mean they don't have a preference. Do some pile work with both ATB's and Dokken's mixed in, and see which birds get brought back LAST. I can assure you, the FF of my dog, Gabe, Tess, Skippy J's and dozens of other dogs ain't in question.

Mine will "fetch" a glass coke bottle or a tack studded training buck. But that really don't prove a thing, other than she is willing to please me, and that I have been a jackass testing her to see HOW far she will go picking up stuff in her mouth to please me. She would rather have a duck or a dokken in her mouth than any assinine thing she will pick up at my command, so would yours. And that's the point.

I not whining, some folks are just too dense to grasp the difference.
