Remember the 2 duck limits of the '80s?? Lotta topwaters AND damn good hunters quit during that period. They only re-emerged when ducks rebounded after CRP was begun in the PPR and the drought up there was broken in the '90's. Duck numbers went up, the economy went up, hunter numbers went up, public lands got crowded.
Now, after CRP acres are plowed, duck numbers will go down, hunter numbers will go down, and public lands will be less crowded. I might add that duck hunting lands may decrease in value.
The bright side? Momma always said, "you play with the cards you're dealt", meaning- everyone handles diversity their own way, under the circumstances they find themselves in. I don't think I will be duck hunting many days of the season if the limits are restricted and there aren't any ducks in the flyway anyway, but I WILL still get out to my property deer hunting, turkey hunting, and I will watch my duck hole for the tough old birds that make it down here. I will probably shoot them with my camera, and be sad that a chapter in my life has ended.

Now give me your reasoning? Just because I converse with people about things doesn't mean I "hang out" with them. Speakin' my mind man, just speakin my mind. If ya don't like it... head the hell on out.
I am glad to see some talk pertaining to the subject I posted about originally and not a buncha dudes with keyboards bigger than their peckers givin me life advice. Jwarwick, it's interesting you talk about the the mid 80's and duck hunting. I wasn't old enough to hunt then but I have heard stories. DW's newest magazine talks about how future seasons are going to make the mid 80's look like the good ol' days if crp issues don't shapen up.
Jwarwick on average how many birds would you see in a morning in the delta back in the mid 80's? I have always heard older fellars talk about those days and how whatever limited days you had to hunt, you rarely saw many birds at all.

I guess that makes me a tool because I like Skip's lanyards?
I use his lanyards because they are comfortable. Try wearing a lanyard for 50-60 straight days and get back to me.

Yep.......you're a tool...... the next time you hunt 60 straight days a season, I want to hear about it....... I bet you even have an extra bottom half with more calls stored in your blind bag to clip on if the calls you are using aren't working right.

By the way......Do you have a neoprene duck strap that you used to carry all those limits out with last year?

Extra bottom half in the bag? Nope, just another lanyard.
Neoprene duck strap? Don't own one.

CRP and Sodsaver went down the crapper because nobody felt like saving them. Probably too busy carving their own decoys or whatever. The squeaky wheel gets the grease up here and duck hunters didn't squall loud enough to drown out a half-assed fart. Silver labs named Drake ain't got a damn thing to do with what could even be considered the beginning of our problems.

Okay, speak your mind all the hell you want...but where was all this discussion last year? Bottom line, EVERYTHING you're ranting about is old news and has been discussed at length...if you genuinely think you are alone in your concern it is likely you are talking to people who are not nearly as "plugged in" (for lack of a better term) as you are and that is what I meant when I said you were "hanging out with the wrong people." Here is what I'm getting at, these are not new subjects even if they are just now making headlines they have been on the horizon for a while. If memory serves they have been addressed directly or indirectly in some way shape or form on this board. I have had MULTIPLE discussions face to face about these very issues with people in this board. CRP/WRP has been an issue for at least 2 years if I remember correctly and probably longer than that since my memory isn't that great. I do distinctly remember discussing it two years ago. I also remember, and cannot count how many times we've discussed the future of this sport. As for the 2nd Amendment if you JUST NOW got worried you missed the bus, if you honestly thought it was going to be 9-0 or 7-2 in favor of individual rights you might want to spend a little more time reading up on the highest court in the land rather than wastin' time talking to folks that think spinning wing decoys with LED's sound like a good idea.
If you think people aren't concerned about it because you don't hear them talking about it in your home town, or it isn't a hot topic on an internet message board, I suggest you broaden your horizons a little...sorry for that bit of unsolicited life advice. The scary thing is most people, the average joe, isn't worried about something unless CNN/The Local Paper tell them they should be worried about it. You wanted to know if you're the only one worried about these things and I can assure you that there are folks here that have been concerned about these issues for much longer than they care to remember...even before these subjects made the front page of any publication....
Feel free to ignore me though...I'll see myself out....
