The Hattiesburg store has a little of everything but not a lot of anything. They have hunting gear, fishing gear, guns, camping gear, kayaks, footwear and athletic gear (baseball, softball, golf). Very upscale, not a good ole boy sporting goods store. Personally, I have never had a bad experience there. They did offer 12 months same as cash which is good for purchasing large dollar items. I don't know if the Mean Mallard does this.

They are allegedly keeping some of the hunting stuff, but cutting way back on all of the clothing and Filson and Orvis crap. They will be adding the uniform stuff. They are keeping the archery dept. Look for name change and grand opening to be somewhere around the Extravaganza.

Is it possible for prices to be higher than currently at the mean mallard/happy gadwall/dead duck?

Went by there at lunch.. They are going to close down around the 15th of July and then reopen a few days later and supposed to have a big inventory clearence sale (not on the guns though  )

Anyway.. The prices after Chris took over were not terrible on everything. Some were pretty good.

Yeah, Big Buck's has too much non-hunting stuff, near zero waterfowl stuff, and all of it is a little high. Decent selection of guns, though.

Chris told me it would be bigger & better than ever. Said they would carry more Waterfowling stuff than the Hattisburg store. He's still gonna run the ship.

I quit going to Big Buck years ago as they thinned out the stuff that was important to me. I hate to hear the MM is changing hands. They were expensive, but they at least had whatever waterfowl stuff I was looking for rather than having to order it. Chris Bates was always helpful to me.

Don't worry guys.......Van's will keep them in check price wise, or they will go out of business quickly. Best kept secret was that MM would also come within $10 of any gun than Van's sold....hell, what's 10 bucks for the time driving and gas? Chris did a great job with the store compared to the previous diack head owners than ran it when it was on Old Canton Rd. I think the new store will be better than most expect. Don't forget, he also has to compete with Vans, Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shops, Wally World, and a few others in the area. I expect great prices as they will now have more buying power with 2 stores and possibly more. I think it's a win win.

for the non believers you will soon see what i am talking about. I started dealing with Big Bux when I was just a little fellar and got my first browning rifle there but they dont have a clue about waterfowling.... at least not yet... I dont think they will make it in the Jackson area. hope they do as I dont wish anyone any bad luck but dont think it will last.
