I know Jerry Johnson and sure hope he doesn't sell. You can't even get into Chotard from the MS River if the Vicksburg gauge gets to 7' (I think that's right).

If you got a BIG set of em and the knowhow you might make it at 7.5 to 8. But you better know what you are doing before you try! The FLW tour championship out of Greenville in '96 some of them went in there at 7.7 but it was a sight to see! I wouldn't recomend trying at anything below 10 to 11 feet. Gettin in is the easy part though. Comin out is the hard part!

Why can't any other landowner around Chotard or albemarle open their own ramp? If he buys and shuts down the ramp someone else will want to make that money..

Someone could but unless you go to a lot of expense like Jerry did I don't think it would be profitable.
As far as going in and out of the ditch at Chotard. You won't do it in a small boat below 10-11 ft. At 8 foot there will only be a trickle of water coming out. Got to have some speed and power to make it.

I have been thru the chute at 8 ft in my duck boat, but Chotard was on a fall from the lower teens. Water was flowing to the Ms from ol Chotard.

I guess you could start hunting out of the ole fan boat. You'd be the only hunter there. :) :)

Oh I've come in it as low as you can but I was using someone eles's equipment! I drove the camera boat in at the FLW championship. It was at 7.7 on the Vicksburg guage. Of the 6 boats that tried it only 4 made it back out the first day. Water was coming up a bit but at 8.5 the next day it still had not turned the ditch around. It did make it somewhat easier though for the hardest part was the first quarter mile. Had a bunch of logs in it. We hit some spots running 60 plus and were down to nearly nothing before getting enough water to go again. I would put mu own boat thru it. I run skinny water a lot but that was just too bad. The ditch is too long to do it safely. Plus on the top end the ditch has actually move west a bit and is really in the stumps on the west side. Not a good combo when you have to hit it WFO!!!
