When it gets cold the bird really start looking for some carbohydrates that they can readily turn into body heat. That is why they flock to the corn.

Natrual vegatation is neat to do but not as effective as a planted crop such as corn or millet. If natural veg was so great then Fighting Bayou would be encircled with sedge, sprangletop and barnyard grass and not corn.

I've got several places I'd like to try some millet. Easy to plant/spread and grows as fast as most of the weeds.

Coffeebean seems to work as good as any other natural stuff. I don't think they eat it but sure like to roost in there.

1. It's the easiest to fool with.
2. It's ideal for 12 to 18" water depth
3. Ducks will take it over ANYTHING else if they have a choice.
4. Been doing it for 50 years and tried just about every combination there is under all conditions. This by far works the best!

My gosh... c-bank has been planting food for ducks for 50 years! You definitely have my respect. I see in your profile that you are from the South Delta- have you hunted there for those 50-60 years?

Yup, when I first started hunting I was hunting what is now Yazoo Wildlife Refuge! I remember when they first came in and built all the high fences alongside the roads. There were so many ducks and geese in there it was unreal. I almost cry evertime I ride thru there now! They don't manage that place like they need too. Most of the structures are either gone or in such bad shape they can't be used. I bet there are wells up there that haven't pumped any water in 20 years! I can remember the first greentree being built in D.N.F. There use to be millet fields in it and you could actually kill ducks in it back then. One of my best memories came from there back in the 60's My dad and I were hunting in there one morning and heard the darndest racket but couldn't figure out what it was. After a little sneaking we found out. It was a group of Black Mallards (must have been a thousand plus) walking up an acorn ridge eating acorns! Damndest racket you ever heard! I can still picture it in my mind today. Just wish I could see a sight like that again. I've seen a lot of changes in the area over the years and sad to say not many for the plus of hunting. I can Remember from Yazoo Wildlife to Cary MS was almost solid woods. Only the deer creek ground was cleared. But that's what they all call PROGRESS!
