Yea, I guess I did get lucky twice in one week. I didnt think the rebs would win and I sure didnt think I would get a band. Got a call from my huning buddy yesterday to see what I had killed up here at school and of course he had to brag about his hen mallard that was wearing jewlery.
These two bands are odd occurences for our home in the hills. Probably wont happen again for us hill folks for a long time but we can still hope.

Congrats Hotty Toddy. The first time I went duckhunting, I killed a banded Woodie drake, in a slough South of Columbus. My bro-in-law killed another drake from the same bunch and it also was banded. The one I killed was banded 7 &1/2 years, before I shot it. It was banded in near Louisville,KY.
Now you will check every bird you kill.

I agree with the imprinting theory 100 %. There's a place that my buddies and I call the band hole.
I'm sure you can guess why Sportsman.

Wildfowler, you're not showing the place enough reverence. It's "Band Hole", not band hole.

Well you know, I didn't actually discover the "Band Hole", I've just exploited it three times. I also know you got really lucky that those ducks crossed thier paths that Christmas Eve hunt a few years ago.

A buddy of mine got his first band this weekend off of a woody also.

This topic reminds me of a question that has been on my mind for some time. The place where Wildfowler's Band Hole is located is public and near a refuge. I have hunted it maybe 15 times over the last ten years and killed three banded ducks there. Do you think that there's any correlation between the percentage of banded ducks and the proximity of the refuge? If they do band alot of ducks on the refuges (as I believe is the practice) and the ducks really do "hopscotch" from one refuge to another, then it would seem that the closer you hunt to the refuges, the more bands you get.

10_Gauge I think I will decline on the question of where I was. I will just say it was North of Lauderdale county and South of Noxubee county. Most of the ducks we kill have this bewildered look on there face. I think this is because they are so lost they dont know what the hell is going on. They decoy just to try and ask the other ducks the way back to the flyway.
