Hey, John! Haven't heard from you in a long time. Yeah, the season was pretty much a bust for a lot of us. First time I didn't fire a shot while I was back home. I mostly just rode around and looked at the water...a lot of water! Hopefully, there will be better conditions this year. Maybe I can slip up on duck somewhere this year! How's the family?

What I read in the Clarion Ledger is that the USFWS purchased 120 acres and released the 640 school section for Panther. The 800 acre camp is still there and going strong.

Thanks for the input S.B. and all. I had s hard time believing they would have sold out. But I just couldn't figure where another section migh be.
Crow,
Would that Joe Curran? I never met him myself but there is a road up there we called the Joe Curran road.
I hunted those woods from 78-about 91 or 92. It was a sad day when my father had to sell our share in that camp. I haven't had the heart to go back since. Sorry to hear it has gotten so crowded. I may have to get back up there this year though, if nothing else just to feel my feet on that ground again.
Yep, I too have been lost as a haint up in those woods, easy to do on a cloudy day when you are bold enough to believe your compass is lying.
Don't know if you were around back then but if you remember an old trailer up on posts at the edge of Strickland's camp that was where I lived during the season for my formative years as a waterfowler.
I have got a lot of fond memories of thatplace and the people of those two camps. I cried like a baby whe the dozer knocked down thatold wood camp where I met Mr. Herman and all his folk.
Ah, memories, they last lifetime.

M.B., I had already moved to GA by the time you learned to love that place. The swamp was my favorite place to squirrel and duck hunt. Back in the mid '60's, Callahan Bridge Rd. was a gravel road that was like a tunnel through the woods. I'd park on the road and walk in or walk in off the the levee. I went in off Callahan one cloudy day squirrel hunting and got to walking and following a squirrel through the trees. Man, when I finally stopped and looked around, I had no clue where I was or which way was what! Finally walked out on River Road about 6 miles from my car. Joe Curran, Sr. was partner in McGraw Curran Lumber Co, the owner of the property. He has a son, Joe, Jr., but the road is named after Joe Sr. I remember when all those camps were active, but back then, if you were a duck hunter, people thought you were crazy. I'll bet there weren't five people who hunted ducks in Panther Swamp in the 60's. Of all the boys in the school, I, Hudson Thomas, Glen Thomas, and Tom Harrison were the only ones who ever went hunting. As long as you didn't hunt the deer, you could duck hunt all you wanted just about anywhere you wanted over the whole delta. That all changed somewhere in the early/mid 80's! Where are you from, by the way? My name's Bobby Crowson.

Mallardchaser, will these guys never learn?

Crow, You and I had some good communications last year about some areas we both knew. I thought it worked well. I recall it was by PM. Not being smart, just making a simple request.

No fool would hunt there anymore cause you have to elbow your way in at midnight and all the dux have moved to WRP land cause of all the pressure for so many years. Yet and still, there are folks who like that kinda keen competition. You know you are on top of your game if you can get there early enogh to find a parking spot, survive the bumper car competition to the "secret hole" and outcall the guy 50 yards away. Those fools certainly do not need and would not appreciate the public invitation for more pressure.

I heard they were going to open Anderson Tully back up to the public. That is hard to believe because it is probably the best duck hunting place in that part of the delta! You can hunt there and if it aint happening in the woods, you can scoot on down to shipland and always get some action on those weary ducks that travel down the Mississppi River. That place is like a Motel 6 for them, I declare.

Crow, I got something for you to talk about. I'm gonna set some lines in the little sunflower or that area friday night. You got any ideas?

Meeka,
PArdon me but if you read this post through it was not about hunting there, we all know how crowded it is. I asked about a news item and was hoping for some clarification. If this board can not be used to talk about good old times and as an exchange of information, non-specific if you must then what use is it?
I have watched this for several years now and I find it hard to believe that the games being played by users like myself or you have that great of an effect, other than to run off people who want a place to talk hunting.

Sorry to have broken your CODE OF SILENCE.

Meeka:

I guess they will not learn 'til they pull up at 4 am and have to park on the street bc the lot is full.
All the ducks are in North Mississippi anyway.
