After my last 870 wore out and before I discovered the Benelli Model 90,
I shot ducks with my Ruger O/U for one season...Its a fine shooting gun but the problem is 2 shells instead of 3...
2 shells makes doubles difficult and triples impossible...When you are truly hunting ducks over decoys in the timber (as opposed to pass shooting them over decoys), doubles and triples are definite possibilities...
Likewise, that 3rd shell is really handy on shooting cripples before they get away...Granted a good duck dog can take care of most cripples, but in the timber even a good dog loses some ducks that would otherwise be retrieved if you had a 3rd shot to slow the cripple down...
I have had NO TROUBLE with my Benelli in 5 years of hard hunting...I prefer the lighter Model 90 to the heavier Super Black Eagle for several reasons- its lighter to swing for doves and quail and much lighter toting in the woods turkey hunting...Plus at about $900 its $400-$500 cheaper than any decent O/U...
