Aw cmon bobby, nobody being on yo case, we just discussing this stuff. Ask an emotional question, get an emotional answer.. They're arent any wrong answers because its opinions. You know we respect you very much, if I havent told you that lately, then here it is for all the world to see (all 14 people who'll read this! hehe). I would think it would bother you if we didnt have strong emotions on these subjects.
Are akc flyers realistic to a hunting scenario? I would say no. There isn't any way a gun station visible in a field, with 2 or 3 people standing there, tossing a duck and then smacking it is a real life hunting scenario. If a dog had never seen one, and didnt know what to expect you might make that arguement. But frankly, when a dog walks to the line, he can pick out where the marks are coming from (i.e. blinds) most of the time, but isnt sure what to expect where. That dog KNOWS what a flyer station is. The flyer is there because the dog knows it, and the excitement it adds, not for a truer to life hunting situtation. Make no bones about it, AKC tests are tests, not hunts. Thats not to say its better, or worst, its just is what it is. They don't make a point to duplicate hunting scenarios, HRC does. Doesnt make one better or worst (obviously I have my own opinion which one fits me better, as most folks do), just different. There is no need to make them similar, as their differences are what make them both worthwhile. Thats why Im so certain HRC doesnt need to lose any of the hunting aspect of its game, because we already have a game that does that. Obviously, a flyer thrown as a breaking bird is a more true to life (as the exciement level is where the test is) than one 100 yards out that the dog recognizes it for what it is. I don't have anything against exposed guns, in fact we train with them a lot of times, and the best marking dogs in the world run off exposed guns. But we don't call that a true to life hunting secnario. We also train without shooting a lot of times, & with bumpers or rubbie duckies. But once again, thats training, not hunting, not testing.
Whut we don't do, is ever handle a gun unsafe. Ever. Real with live rounds. Real with popper loads. OR an orange gun thats welded shut, or a 2X4 cutout to look like a gun. And any program that encourages you to swing a replica of a gun, yet not be judged on how you handle it, is more concearned about test, than hunt, belive that. I think thats is very irresponsbile to make people hold a fake gun, yet let them swing it wildly. You do things enough they become habit, good or bad. People playing with toy guns unsafely doesnt make any sense to me. Make them hold a gun, fine. But make them hold it safely. travis

MS/BAMA HRC Fall Hunt
C'mon Bobby!!! Opinions and assholes. Everybody has one. They just smell different.
The primer loads are just louder than a cap pistol. It adds no excitement.
You da big boss hog. We could not have hit a spot on yo old ass that hasn't been chewed on yet. In fact I didn't know we were chewing on you.
