Man the pic of the mountain lion in "Alabamer" shows one thing for sure, how close the conformities are in the two cats. Granted the difference in torso size is noticable, but wouldn't you thing a cat in the swamps and woods of Miss. has less jumping (up to rock ledges and such) to do and therefor be a bit more compact of an animal...like a bear.

I'll admit it I'm a conspiracy theorist, and I don't claim to have seen one, but if there is ever a day I have my camera ready and see one. I'll be the first to say "I told ya so"

The pic was taken at around 8:00 on Monday morning off of the top of the Greenville harbor dike that goes to Archer Island just north of town. Keep in mind that the cat is likely 75-100 yards away from the camera on the other side of a barb wire fence at the base of the levee.

Does anyone know the photographer?

I will worry about that if I ever see one. That is the only way to prove without a doubt that they exist in MS.

Yea, why would there be a fine for shooting something that the MDWFP says does not exist in this state.

What do I think, Jeff? I think those are cats in those pictures. What kind? Cougar in the first pic, don't know about the second. With today's computer age, doctoring a pic is relatively easy.

I would be out there with some cast material looking for tracks in the mud; that's what I'd be doing.

But I sure wouldn't shoot one just to prove they are here. Who cares if there is "proof"? If you see it and believe it, why must you prove to anyone else that it was real?

Wingman, you can meet me at my house and we can hop right across the levee and find some tracks! Sounds like fun! That would be on Mr. Skelton's land I believe. The McKaskils have land on one side also. I can also access our dove field.

The second one appears to show it walking on very damp ground. No pictures of the tracks? I dont know how big a panther's track is but I'm sure its bigger than a house cat. Alas, always that one piece of the puzzle missing.

Does this mean that panthers exist in NW alabama, or do you think the panther is a "released pet" of sorts? If they exist in NW Alabama, its conveivable that some of them roam areas in MS as well.

I bet that if the cat in the pics is a black panther, it was released from somewere. I don't think black panthers occur naturally in this region.

I have no idea where the "Alabama" picture was taken. It could've been taken in the Yukon Territory for all I know.
